Now I know politics and religion are a minefield but the sheer hipocracy and cant of this is breathtaking...

"McGuinness said the attackers were "racist criminals" who he wanted to see arrested and taken to court.

"Those people who engage in these types of attacks... are people who need to be isolated within the community, need to be brought to book, brought to arrest," he said.

I can to some extent understand the reactions of the mob..18months since my last Job and a P60 that says £2900......the Big Issue sellers in my wee toon are Romanians, mother and daughter, husband plays the accordian on other days. They don't live down here.
It's the same over in Edinburgh fat wifies in weird attire with piles of Big Issues..just a licence to beg. Don't get me started on the Poles seemingly outbreeding the asians in Leith...

YES I am having a bad day...no I can't afford to go a run on my bike (or pay the phone bill).

Same over here. Romanian Big Issue (or Beeg Eeshu as she calls it) seller in St Andrews. Part of a family who were pick pocketing old people in Dundee then turning up at Perth prison at visiting times in taxis (witnessed with my own two eyes). Nice to see we've no more homeless UK residents that we can give these feckers an "in".

Shame we can't get rid of them-Oh, well. Let's give them a quid for their paper instead.

Feck off.

We had a group of them working the Big Issue in Wick last year.

One badge holder between three of them.

At the end of the day they all piled into a Chrysler Voyager and fecked off.........

See it as a license to beg if you like, but at the least, it's controlled and managed (or should be........call the Bishoo office if it's not.)

I've always bought the Big Issue, I've no problems with genuinely homeless people grafting for a few quid. But I do have a problem with Immigrants working the BI 'system' to their own ends and being so poor they can afford to run a sizeable recent motor.

A couple of people did phone up the BI, TBH there's not much they can do about it until someone clocks the badge number of the one 'legitimate' vendor.

Anyway, they soon moved on to become someone elses problem.:D

A genuine Bi'shoo seller should be ok to give their badge number- if there's one trying to hide it, there's a pretty good chance they're dodgy anyway, which means the police and/or the council would be interested, as sites are licensed.

Each Bi'shoo region has an office , usually staffed by ex-sellers who have moved up the line, all of who, will take it very seriously and they will often go out and see what's going on (and they'd recognise the genuine sellers in their area too.)

It's worth passing on details to the area office 'cos the whole concept of the Bi'shoo is great (IMO anyway) and like so many other things, could easily be ruined by people taking the piss and destroying their otherwise good reputation :)

PS Sometimes people get the wrong idea too......the structure of the progress of a seller means that they can still sell the Bishoo for a period after they've become housed (IIRC it's six months) which makes sense......you can't cut someone's support strings the second they start getting back on their feet :thumb2

I did in fact email the Bishoo...still waiting after 3 weeks for a reply. They'll be too busy dishing out mags...I wonder if I could make a living at it?

My main point in posting was McMurderer(alleged) and his past involvment in community harmony..now seemingly forgotten.

Tony, just as a mater of interest, where did the original quote come from and in what context? :)

I was quite stunned when McGuinness spouted this hypocritical mince on the lunchtime news.

Must think everyone's got memories as short as his seems to be. :(

..one way of seeing it or another would be he has turned a new leaf and now is serving the population of Norn Irl according to his current job:nenau

Talking to a girl from Derry this morn and asked about the situation up there. Her comment was no one is interested in digging up the past and those who are weren't born during the real troubles....:nenau

Personally i'd rather see McGuinness in government spouting spin or platitudes rather than on an army council deciding someone's death....

He's now a bona fide duly elected politician is he not? :nenau

While there's a need for 'peace walls' separating communities, there's still a major unresolved problem in parts of the province. Doesn't matter whether someone's born before, during or after the troubles.

In saying that, there are of course large parts of NI where the troubles barely impinged. Still can't understand why even Romanian gipsies would want to go and live there though.... It's a cold wet place.

I am sure some people on here could confirm the requirement for peace walls in communities all over UK...some things take time and if every time something small happens that upsets people that they start running for their guns nothing will be fixed.

Comments like how dare HE say such things when they are the right thing to say helps no one...different if he said the wrong thing.

As somebody who ended up being brought up right in the middle of the troubles, I quite agree. I can remember McGuiness back in the 60's and prefer the new version by far :thumb2

Like most things, its the small minority that can give a false impression of what different communities are like. Surely a recipe for success is to live and let live, and treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves. :aidan

and my P60 wasn't much more than £2900 either :(

I thought it was awful bad luck when his chain snapped after posting a new record lap.............. :blast
