MCN Fail to Run in GS....

Should have stuck with his scooter then! :moped:

That Paper is just so........well ya know!

As said before unless it does 190mph and 180 BHP they are not bothered :pullface

TD

PS,
They will have the new Multistrada before long anyway.

Let me see .....

Ah yes, the owner's manual suggests that 100ml per 1,000 miles for the first 5,000 miles is not unusual especially if ridden at high speed for extended periods.

RTFM Wanker.

right... so the guy isn't as 'clued' up as most on the pain of the oil level for a beemer for the first few 000s. Anyone who hasn't had a a boxer before (and without the help of a experienced owner) finds the oil level a pain. Speaking from experience with my 1st boxer engine I was pretty fed up to find it using oil [1] as you have to learn to trust the bike a bit more.

So he gets slated

Oh, and he he's more miles than most of you keyboard chompers in 2 weeks than some of you do in a 'season'.

Tossers.. yup.

Not sure he really give a toss about what you lot think either.. he's getting paid to ride the thing.

[1] I was probably overfilling it.

They had a 1200RT,1100S, K.A had a GSA a few years back so why such a surprise about oil comsumption. After all there is a wealth of knowledge at MCN:augie

My first ever BMW was my 2005 GS - I don't get all this confusion about oil-level, it is hardly rocket science - just read and carry out the instructions in the Manual.

Is the IQ of motorcyclists so far below average that they struggle with such simple tasks as checking the oil level - FFS get a grip!!

look, there's really not an awful lot to write about modern motorcycles - especially such a small upgrade on a motorcycle that's had so many reviews since its launch in 2004. Using oil is an exception these days and may be worth mentioning to people new to non-Jap stuff and it gives him column inches.
Before you haze him for not running it in properly look at any of the many threads on this forum recommending an aggressive RI period

MCN – GS’s are all oil burning lumps of poo – we are in love with the Multistrada now.

Yeah they loved the Tiger to when that first came out:comfort Its part of the Britsh make up, build em up and kick me down witness Botham. Beckham and anyone / anything else British. Read and chuckle:beerjug:

Kicking shit with a KTM rider ( tarted up 950SM:drool) in BULLDOG TRIUMPH ,he was telling me that the gear box on his Rocket exploded , dealer sorted it out and he still loves his ride. Happy to observe that corrosion on Triumph's is as good as on BM:augie

I really don't get this. Why the vitriol?:nenau Where does he imply that he's failed to run it in properly? All he's saying that it uses more oil than he expected, which is a common enough experience for first-time GS owners. And having a go at his journalistic skills seems a bit harsh - he can string a sentence together better than a good few on here. Anyway, he's a photographer by profession, not a writer.

I know that MCN may not be everyone's cup of tea ( I don't bother with it either) but this guy is just expressing his opinion. And I'm as interested in his GS experiences as anybody else's.

Right, now that I've got that off me chest, I'll feck off! :)

And Mr. Jubb, if you happen to bump into me at the MCIA test day - you can buy me a pint. :D

I have spanked my 2010 from day one. (haven't been over 8 thousand .... no point ...) and whilst it's drunk oil, it's also going like a train!! It'll settle down though (by about 10,000 probably!!) :drool
