just got back from my usual saturday morning bimble to north wales and here we go again.nice ride on some great roads, saw the usual camera vans dotted here and there,no probs.pulled in to the ponderosa for a cuppa, nice day. every biker coming in from the llangollen end of the horseshoe pass, effin and blindin, some laughing, yes the road block is set up again.every biker being pulled in,cruisers, sportsbikes, harleys, you name it.every car,van wagon, bus being waved through.every biker pulled.if this isnt discrimination what is.you could have drove an old banger car with bald tyres,no tax,no insurance and the like, and the police arent bothered, but ride a bike and beware.

I've been in North Wales 3 times in as many weeks. All over. Llangollen, Betws-y-coed, Anglesey, Abersoch and so on. Didn't get stopped once. I got a wave and a smile from a bike cop who had stopped a car. Am I missing something :nenau What do I need to reclaim? I stuck to the limit, had a standard plate and a stock exhaust. I enjoyed the scenery, had some good food and took some photos.

What I did note was how tribal the sports bike riders were. Hardly any nodded back. There was a correlation between the amount of power ranger gear they were wearing and how friendly they were. The more of a power ranger they were the less likely they were to nod back. :(

+1 on that, most of my mileage is in North Wales and I really dont see the harassment angle.

:blast:blast:blast

Maybe you should have given them the Tosser wave :tosser, they probably recognise that far more than a nod :D:D:D

Anybody going on the MCN ride to reclaim North Wales on the 19 Sept.
It was in the MCN mag this week..

You must be a 1200 rider
The rest of us have more sense than to buy that trash mag

Was North Wales ever closed................??

Ridden there most years and never had a problem ever

Now after watching the way some sportsbike idiots ride................i'm not suprised that they were victimised by Brunstrom and fecking deserve all they got

Loud exhausts/small numberplates and illegal, stupid riding have no place in motorcycling and should be outlawed

Ride within the limits and YOUR limits and you should have no problem

Just out of interest where is this " road block " . From your post I gather it is between Llangollen and the Ponderosa . Is it often ther and laways the same spot???

Lets support them and our right to ride.

Ahhh I get it, this is a bit of dis-information posted by North Wales Police isn't it.... The real Reclaim North Wales ride being on 13th September !!!! :augie

I was there on saturday morning on my Guzzi stelvio, my mate on his Triumph sprint, we both got pulled going down the road towards Llangollen. There were four coppers, an unmarked silver BMW estate car and a marked traffic car.

It was a fairly pleasant experience after getting a tug from the Guardia Civil in Spain a couple of months ago. We were told it was to check for stolen vehicles and documentation. All was very polite, but the young copper got a bit agitated when after asking for our names and dates of birth (we didn't have our driving licences with us) when I suggested to my mate to run for it as he had two outstanding arrest warrants. Oh how we laughed when he found out I was retired from the job and my pal still a serving sergeant :D

You've been luckier than me, then....

....I have been stopped a couple of times for "safety checks". The last time was particularly irritating as the copper conducting the check clearly had no clue whatsoever about what constituted a safe motorcycle and left the impression we should be grateful for his attention (he actually said: "it's for your benefit"). After 15 minutes of complete nonsense, we were given a grubbly photocopy: laughingly entitled a "Certificate of Safety" and "allowed" to proceed.

I genuinely have every sympathy for the people of North Wales having to put up with arseholes on bikes every sunny Sunday but heavy handed policing just alienates people who stick to 30 through the villages and ride with standard cans, number plates i.e. me.

:thumb I'm with you on that. If we have the standard kit and are sticking to the rules then we shouldn't be getting stopped. Maybe we need some diversionary tactics. So when these fellas are out holding up the pass we nuke the station and put on a nice thermo-nuclear fireworks display :D

I personal avoid riding on Saturday and Sunday morning / mid-day. There are too many idiots out there that spoil it for everyone else. At the end of the day the police are just reacting to a problem that is very much there. They might not handle it very well, but they have to react. Try coming over for a ride late afternoon / early evening, that's when North Wales is at its best, and you'll also be left wondering what all the fuss is about!

I won't be joining in on the protest ride, I'll probably be out after it's all fizzled away. :thumb

With a few mates we've done the Welsh National Rally quite a few times taking in the northern loop a few times (more sceninc that southern loop) and have never had any problems despite the organisers warning entrants not to hoon about as the cops were watching.

I live near the A259 that BikE decided was a great road to ride on from Folkestone to Rye and beyond. It is for some of it, but a real pain in the arse for us that live on it as the "power rangers" (to use the phrase) are out in force on any dry Sat and Sun a.m.

Riding like ***** in the 30 limit areas and not endearing themselves to Mr and Mrs J Public. I have no problems with making progress as in Kent you can do what you like for most of the time, but ridiculous overtaking in High Street conditions just confirms the view that these blokes are ***** and need banning...

Where the ****ers go to after lunch is a mystery!

What I don't get with this "lets reclaim the roads" protest is, if your bike is legal and you ride sensibly, there isn't a problem. The problem comes because a tiny minority are hell bent on killing themselves or some poor unfortunate who happens to be in the vicinity.

When I ride in North Wales I take it easy and enjoy the ride.....simples :thumb

Although I think bikers should stand up for their right to ride and not to be targeted, I fear this will only give the police more ammunition as there are bound to be some feckwits there who will squeel like girls when they get ticketed for their loud cans, small plates etc etc

Fair point but I think the complaint is that while you're quietly going about your legal ride you get stopped and hassled just because you're on a bike and not driving a car.

me too stay away from the main routes and the power rangers and its the best place in the world(when its not raining)
PS these police stops are only there at weekends and the local press tell you where the arrive alive vans will be and just slow down for any horse boxes on the side of the road.:thumb

This thread has got me started....for starters I have glanced through the previous replies and am in agreement with most of the comments....MCN is a shite stiring load of crap, Wales as far as I am concerned are not anti bikers they are just anti law breakers, I have had the pleasure of riding a number of times in Wales without any confrontation with the local constabluary, if you ride to the legal requirement there is not cause for concern if you want to ride like a pratt you deserve to have you coller felt......on a further note the phrase most dangerous roads...all roads are made of tarmac or concrete, what riders have to do is read the road and ride accordingly, if you ride like a pratt you deserve to fall off.......I think you will get point from this.....just to say for those who know me I do like to push the speed limit to it's utmost, but having said that if I speed on a road and got caught then I would have to accept the penalty....but I live on an island I get all the open road I need over here I don't need to do it in the UK.

Well....I for one am glad MCN have arranged this, and that most of the biking fraternity in the NW will be attending......

.........Cos I'm going up to the lakes :D:D:D:D:D:D Roads should be power ranger free...:D:D:D
