He also notes that the LC is the better off-road than the old GS.
I guess that's because of the electronics ? The wider tyres and extra weight can't help.
He also notes that the LC is the better off-road than the old GS.
Ian Pavey's (son of Pavey) conclusion was that the KTM and the BMW were pretty closely matched off road, with the KTM being a bit better for 'expert' riders. He also notes that the LC is the better off-road than the old GS.

.
Have to get me 10 pennuth (10p) in here !
Having test ridden all of the above,I dunno why but I still find me GSA the favorite, notice I didnt say best !
Best for scaring the shite out of me was the Ducati, bloody fast, nice comfy seat, but rattled a lot.
Best for flying the flag,Triumph. But something was missing, think it may have been character !
Best for smoothness acceleration etc,Honda, but still something missing,it lookes a bit too fragile, plasticy I think.
Best for nothing really, the Yamaha, sorry folks, didnt rate it at all ! When I took it back to the Dealer the mechanic asked how I liked it,I said I thought it was shite and he agreed !!! Stated they are horrible !!
Best for me overall, sorry again but it is, (roll of drums ! ) the new GS LC !
Loved it,it just seemed to do everything well and was typically GS but more so.
Now, I didnt go off road on any of the above and only do Roads,Gravel, pot holed shite everywhere and any road that takes me to where I want to go whatever the surface (without looking for trouble ! )
I sold my last GSA (2009 model) with over 24,000 miles in two years which I think aint bad really,I ride whatever the weather and have never wanted to do so before owning the GSA.
To end this saga I must tell you about the KTM.I saw it at the NEC show and immediately liked the looks etc,Orange paint and all.So, I gave my details to be contacted as soon as one was available.
Duly the email arrived to say the Bike was available for demo and I booked a Test Ride with the nearest Dealer.
On a wet and misty morning I turned up at 08.50 for my 9am appointment,a bit early,a bit wet and a bit excited !
The staff arrived and started moving Bikes in and around the site and one even spoke to me and I confirmed that I was indeed there to ride the new model.
As stated above it was a shitty day and very cold.I stood outside the showroom and waited to be admitted as the door was locked,at 9.15 I was still standing outside in the cold shitty weather, staff gone inside, showroom door still locked,so, I got back on my trusty steed and fucked off home !!!!
Best for Hospitality, come in and have a coffee, get warmed up etc, certainly not the KTM dealer I went too,so, no ride on one yet !
Ater thawing out at home I emailed the dealer and explained my disgust,as yet I've had no reply.
Excellent customer service eh !!
Still like to ride one though !![]()
It may be better than the old gs, but is it as sturdy????
My issue with it is all the breakable plastic and the cost of repair. I'm assuming that they tested the enduro with the wire wheels?
The cast wheels can be off roaded, but they are more vunerable and cannot be repaired once broken. At least if a spoke snaps it's easy to replace.
Then there is the issue with all the electronics. How well protected are all the connections. See my pic above, I like playing in water and electrics don't.
When all is said and done, BMW keep the rally school employees in a job, it wouldn't be wise to say the old model was better off road would it.
Take it all with a pinch of salt. There are loads of bikes better than my 1150 and I really couldn't give a shit, it's all willy waving.

It is way better than the old gs, and incredibly sturdy!!!!
I wish I had all that plastic and don't worry about the cost of repair. They will have tested the enduro with the wire wheels, so no problems there.
The cast wheels can be off roaded, but as an LC owner they can afford to have spoke wheels well At least if a spoke snaps it's easy to replace.
There are no issues with all the electronics as LC riders never ride off road.
When all is said and done, BMW rally school employees are experts, it is clear the model is way better off road than the old ones.
Take it all with a pinch of salt. Every bike ever built is better than my 1150 and I am really fed up with LC owners going on about stale urine, plus they all have bigger willies than me.

What Callard said....^^^^^
Move on.... 11xx GS's were good no doubt but.....

I think the KTM is shite compared to the old 950/990 model personally. It's looks are too soft and I think it's more road going.
Probably faster and handles better blah blah, but I've never been much for race leathers, they make me look like an over stuffed sausage![]()
They still are the dog's bollox, in the GS world
![]()

Check out The R version it is Gorgeous , I think you will like that in white , saw one last week at P+H Sold it was . They are also great KTM dealers . I'd have one

I have to admit that is a lovely picture of an open road and, a "stationary" 1150!

The plastics on an mx/enduro bike cost 50-60 a set
from an aesthetic point of view the 1150GSA is one of the best looking GS's ever produced.............IMHO![]()
really? from honda?
i have no idea, but that seems insanely cheap.

If we're talking Genuine Parts
KTM/Husaberg - Yes
Honda, not a prayer - more like £300 for a front/rear mudguard, plus headlight cowls and sidepanels for a XR250/400
