Meandering round Morocco in a Hilux

I need to write today (to date) up so I’m up to date.
Early start to a closed bakery, back on the autoroute and the first services for coffee and croissants. Off south and across the border in rain and low cloud which gradually cleared as we headed south.
We are currently in a town called Tordesilllas and staying in the Parador, something I’ve never done before but it is very smart. I need to explain how this happened.
Inside me live two creatures, one called Blob (beery lazy obese blob) and Malc (macho wannabe adventurous chap) and they coexist but argue a lot, much like a married couple.
So today we were driving south and discussing where to stop and, therefore, where to stay.
Malc wandered into the control centre and started putting up virtual slides of idyllic camping, a beast grilling on the fire, cold beer in hand. Then Blob woke up and showed pictures of big comfy beds and bars and a happy wife and stuff.
So, we drove closer having agreed on the town but not the accommodation and as we approached town Malc and Blob had a full on fight. Blob got a kick to the groin on Malc and as he went down, we swung into the car park of a lovely Parador. So not my fault.
Years ago Jennifer suggested I recruit a middle man, a beast to keep the peace, mediate between Malc and Blob so I searched around and found one deeply buried called Conscience. He came on board, I introduced him to the chaps who immediately kicked the shit out of him and he’s not been back since. Malc and Blob both like beer and not really giving too much of a fuck so it was never going to work.
So here we are. And I must admit the room is smart, warm and comfy and Jennifer is quiet which generally means happy and we have a bottle of wine open. And we will go and eat soon. And earlier we wandered into town which is nice and sat in the sun for a refreshment.
Life is good, just don’t let your Malc rule it.

I'm looking forward to @Malc taking over once they head South in Morocco.
Can't have @Blob having his own way after all that time they have spent building and prepping their truck.
Malc is ready for it! The south is what it’s all about as you say
So Blob’s time is limited but Jennifer found another parador for about £60 so I suspect we will take it. The coast is too far for today so we’ll split the drive and plan a ferry Saturday morning, Carlos tomorrow afternoon (whenever he’s open)

Conscience will be licking his wounds and putting some hours in the gym, a pissed up Blob/Malc combo sound a right handful.

He should be open 09:00-21:00

Algeciras ro Tangier Med is my favoured route, crossing to Ceuta can be a bit daunting when you arrive at the Spanish/Moroccan border 6km down the road.

You can sort out your insurance (if you don't already have it) and Moroccan phone SIMM at the Tangier port.

Great weather this time of the year for a trip to Morocco. Is it a follow your nose, make the route up as you go along trip, or have you a set itinerary?
If it's the former I can recommend a run up the High Atlas to where the tarmac road ends at Imlil. We did it many years ago and used it as a starting point to climb Toubkal. Spectacular scenery on the road up and places to stay in Imlil although basic.
We went the last two weeks in November with a week either side for travelling, so a month in total.
If you're crossing from Algeciras I hope things have calmed down on the other side in Ceuta. Good luck and Slàinte Mhath.👍🍻

Make it up as we go, I don’t like being restricted by too much planning. Also there has been a fair bit of rain recently so tracks will have changed, we will see what the status is when we get south and decide from there.
We are currently in the Parador in Zafra and it’s grand, an old castle, big room all for £63.
I filled out the fiche forms for us both (template kindly provided by @Paul G (BHT) ) and the lad on reception was happy to print them for us.
Zafra is a very pretty town, we found a square for an obligatory beer and will go and find grub shortly.
On the way south we stopped at a truck stop, basic but friendly, Jennifer thought one of the dishes on display was cuttle fish so I jumped in and ordered some. Turned out it was big lumps of soft, greasy, slippery tripe. She then declined to try any.
I ate Blob’s half but Malc declined the scraggly bits that were left.

Shortly before we left I fitted a new leisure battery, the old one wasn’t holding charge. The only drain on it since leaving has been the wee blue light in the usb points in the back. The voltage though was 13 two days ago, 12.9 yesterday and 12.8 today.
A quick look under the bonnet and I’d obviously clipped a trip switch (taking feed to that battery) when squeezing in the new one. All fine and happy readings now.
So the battery should be fine which means the fridge should be cold which means the beer should be cold which makes for a happy me, which helps make the wine cold and that all helps make a happy Jennifer. Win win.

Thanks, we will be dropping by.
Plan is to Tangier Med. NFU have provided a green card and we have bought Orange esims with loads of data so just need to activate them tomorrow
