Silly Me - I should have known. Riding the bike home last week.... stutter... stutter... phut. Had to push the b'stard 2 miles home in the dark
Took the connector off the coil - took the connections out, they looked as they had when I put them on. Scratch head... look in the top of the connector block and there are some metal rings? I wonder how these connect I think? Get out my old loom and split the coil connector - Oh!
The connectors have completely separated into two pieces each. The bike must have been running on the power of touch and magic. So, rather than looking like the connectors above, they SHOULD look like this
Quuestion is - does anyone know where I might be able to get some? I've not seen ones like this before and Bahnstormer say they're not sold as spares. I'm going to cut the ones off the old loom to get the bike running but I would rather fix it properly with new connectors directly onto the loom.
Do I need a special crimp tool? looks to me like they crimp to the wire as normal - just that the heads are weird. I'll have a look at Farnell and Maplins - I'm thinking that they are an automotive special though
Good call Rocket - Maplin don't seem to carry them but I can get a set of 10 females from ebay for a couple of quid - they'll probably do. The ones in the BM connector have quite a short head and it's round with no barbs (they're in the plastic holder) but I'm sure I could cut the head down and they'd do the job.
