I'm looking at setting up a simple message board for my family as we're all over the country and it makes more sense than sending emails around all the time.

It doesn't need to be flash or clever, but I don't really want to spend much money on it (ideally none!).

I've seen plenty of freeware versions out there, but does anyone have any advice/experience of free message board software.

A (simple) alternative might be to use a "Groups" type facility. One of the organisations that I'm a member of uses Yahoo Groups as a controlled distribution list. Once people have been through a one-step confirmation processes than any email sent to the Group Address gets propogated out to all the members.

Conversley, members can log onto the Group and use it like a little forum.

And it's free.
