I'd have said there was a time where that was true but not since ar Tarquin modded the dealer forum, he is very firm and fair and doesn't suffer fools and would I'm sure see to it an even playing field exists.

Judge,
Thanks for the recognition and support.... :thumb

Moderating is a difficult and thankless task at the best of times, and this Forum in particular is quite demanding.

Dealers and their staff are as welcome as anyone else.

What won`t be tolerated is offensive/abusive postings or any repeats of the 'tit for tat' quarrelling that I ended up deleting from a few Threads a while ago.

yea i'm with Judge on this....

Dealers should come on the site and make it known that they are dealers.
That way it will reduce people having a cheap shot at them..if they know the dealer and service staff can reply to unfounded statements.

The two way street is very true....this place must have far more total knowledge that any one BM dealer...so it would be a good place to help sort that.."I've never heard of that happening before" problem that happens :D
and if the dealers or their service staff can help in solving someones problem it looks good on them too :)

The little but very important subject of insurance cover when getting a test ride was brought up by Schwarz Baron in the Ireland section.

And as yet no one from Hursts has given an answer back or passed that answer on... they have at least one member of staff on this forum...and they have even been on-line today.

Things like this do the opposite for dealers... it gives a bad impression :(

Well it does in this case where Insurance cover must have a simple back or white answer....you're covered or you're not.

Full credit to Crampie on the other hand... who explained in good detail how their insurance worked if you took a bike out. :thumb

When I turned up at Jefferies for a pre-booked test ride they told me they had sold the demonstrator  I was rather annoyed. They did let me take out an almost new bike from the showroom though but it was lucky they had it in or they would have lost a sale. Simple things like courtesy matter to prospective customers.

Or maybe they knew when they sold the the demo that they had a reserve? :D

Wow,seems my original post has stirred up quite a lot of interest!!

Im not going to discuss the actual incident anymore because I feel the truth has been distorted, and I dont want to lower the thread into tit for tat.I did not post this incident to make myself feel better,I just feel that it is useful for dealers to see where they are going wrong and 'fine tune' their organisations so they can deal with incidents like this better in the future.Dont get me wrong, dealers have come a long way over the last 15 years or so,they are far better toward the customer now than they were(there are probably people like me out there who can remember in my part of the world years ago asking for a test ride and being laughed out of the showroom-nowadays the customer takes a test ride of a few hours for granted!!!A courtesy bike was unheard of!!Thankfully most of these dealers have now closed down)

So I just feel that forums like this are useful and dealers should take a little critisism on the chin, and learn so next time everyone is happy and they do not lose that all important business. We all know there is good and bad in every organisation, and most dealers customers are happy with the service they have recieved

When I went to Williams in Manchester, they offered to take me out on the back of an R1200GS (one of the staff's) to get a feel for it as I'd literally only just got my license... Never been a passenger before either so didn't fancy that.

Rang around a few other dealers trying to find any second hand R1200GS as I thought the R1150GS was a bit top heavier for me... :D

Rainbow in Rotherham had a Yellow R1200GS in and agreed to let me test ride it even though I hadn't even sent my license to the DVLA... I needed it to get a drive round Oulton Park at the Gold Cup Races in the Ginetta.

I got showed round the bike, signed the insurance form for the high excess, then went on a ride, about ten minutes later I was back in the dealers... they were surprised I was back so soon.... Didn't want to get lost :o

Did the deal there and then, took the papers away with me for the finance, then turned up the following weekend to ride it home... :clap
