META 357T WARRANTY LENGTH?

Does anybody out there know how long the warranty is on one of these alarms? I think the guys who fitted the one on my bike are trying to wiggle out of responsibility and charge me a fortune for removing (£200) or replacing(£300 + labour). The unit has been fitted for less than 2 years.

I think it's a 1 year warranty which is probably why they're not playing ball.

I had mine changed under warranty because the siren went mute (the alarm and immobiliser still worked as they should) and it took him abot 15 minutes to unplug and exchange the units. All depends on where it's fitted on the bike of course.

Surely a replacement unit is way less than the cost of a new one fitted?

The nightmare continues............!

I made a few enquiries and found out there is a 3 year warranty. I am the 2nd owner of the bike and after contacting the non BMW dealership I bought the bike from, they told me the previous owner had problems with the alarm and META had replaced it last September after the bike sat in the BMW dealership who fitted it for a few weeks while they argued over liability. I got back to the BMW dealership who had initially forgot all about this refit but said they would look into the matter. I have just been phoned back to be told that there is a 3 year warranty, non transferrable to a new owner, but that META will replace the system in the circumstances. Now for the good bit ! Fitting of a new META system to a R1150 GS

Is someone taking the p**s here or what?

In the meantime I am now left with my bike at the BMW dealership completely defunct wondering where I am going to get £423.

The non BMW dealership who I bought the bike from are trying as I speak to sort something out for me but I expected more from BMW considering the bike is still covered by warranty.

At the conclusion of this saga I will not be afraid to mention the parties involved.

Alarming

Why dont you just do away with the alarm, they are useless as security devices anyway, and any discount you get from your insurance company would take at least 10 years to recover the cost of having the alarm fitted anyway. Just a thought

Rip of merchants!

As I happen to live in NI we sometimes expect to pay over the odds for some items but this is completely ripping the ar*e out of it. If you follow this link you can buy the complete V2 system and have it fitted at your own home for £270 but unfortunately it only applies to the mainland. My dealership is being supplied with a unit from META free of charge and they still want £423 to fit it. I'm now starting to get angry!!!!!!!!!!!!

That stinks. If the dealer you bought the bike from knew that the previous owner had had problems with the alarm then surely they are guilty of selling 'not fit for purpose' and are liable to rectify the alarm? Hardly a great expense if they are being supplied one F.O.C.

NCi to the rescue!

I remembered I had transferred my NCi recovery policy from my Aprilia to the GS so I contacted them. They collected the bike from the BMW dealer and brought it to the non BMW dealer I bought the bike from. These guys have contacted Meta in my presence and are trying to come to an arrangement. I wait with baited breath. I still had to pay £52 to BMW dealer for diagnosing a fault which they had previously known about!
