Hi I just bought an used R1100S, the bike has been fitted with a M357T V2 Meta allarm (I also have the certificate of installation so I suppose everything has been done by the book). The alarm works fine, engages automatically, the remote works... etc... the only thing that is not clear to me is "the sound".

Usually the bike beeps once in the morning when I disengage the alarm (as it says on the manual), then it's silent for the rest of the day :eek it just flashes the turning indicators.

I cannot understand how it works. On the manual it says it will beep every time you engage/disengage it, and I suppose it should have a siren (the bike has been silent so far...)

On my previous bike (a '03 R1150R) I had the BMW alarm so I have no clue how meta alarms work.

Can someone help me?
Is there any way to test the siren (the alarm's manual is not clear on this)?

As you say the indicators should flash once and make a beep when you disengage the alarm. As the V2 is an alarm/immobiliser combined it should activate itself after having the ignition turned off for 30 seconds, making another beep as it does so. This automatically sets the immobilser IIRC. If you press the plipper within 30 seconds it should make a double bleep and fully arm itself. After setting this way the siren should go off when the bike is disturbed.

I'm immobile at the moment with a gammy knee, but I'll ask beloved to dig out the manual when she's home tomorrow to double check.

It does, but beeps only the first time in the morning (or after the bike "rested" for some hours)!

It does it after 50 seconds but with no sound, just flashing the turning indicators (and then the led goes on flashing fast/slow).

Yes. tomorrow I'll try to "shake" the bike and see if the siren goes off.

Basically the alarm works perfectly but with no sound, except the shy beep it does in the morning :nenau :)

Take your time and recover  and... thanks!

There's something not right then.

Does the immobiliser function work?

ie If you turn the key all the warning lights should come on but the bike shouldn't start unless you press the plipper.

Also, have you tried doing a 'manual set'. As you have the fitting certificate you should have a code number that's unique to your alarm. There's a sequence of turning the ignition on and off with the flashing LED that you can use if the plipper battery goes flat, that may help reset all the functions.

Again, without the manual to hand I can't tell you exactly how but if you've got instructions it's worth a go. Sorry I can't be more specific, I'm sure someone else'll be along soon.

Yep. The bike won't start unless you press the remote once.
I mean the starter (hope it's the right word in english) goes on, but the engine won't start. As expected with an immobilizer. :)

Yes, I have the 5 digit code and instruction on how to use it.
I'll try tomorrow and see if it resets the alarm.

You've been really helpful instead! Thanks a lot! :beerjug:

Since this morning it started beeping regularly (with the plipper, auto engage, etc...)
How random :)

I'll keep you posted. I'll still try to reset it this afternoon.

I disengaged the alarm with the "secret code" method.
Looks like it worked as a reset as well.
It's beeping now. I'll hope it lasts... :D

I'm still not able to get the siren to go off yet. I'll shake the bike a bit more vigorously later. :augie

Last update and last question.

I think it's just the siren not working.
I've been back home in Italy and haven't used the bike for a couple of weeks.

Now it's completely silent... yesterday I got caught in the hailstorm (it makes perfectly sense because it happened 30 mins after I washed the bike :augie) and I got completelly wet, including the plipper that stopped working (I had to dry it with an hair dryer at home later...), so I was blocked in Islington with a bricked bike... and when moving it the siren went off but it makes an awful low noise like a mis-tuned radio.
I manually disengaged the allarm (thanks god I saved the code on the phone) and got back home swearing in a mixed english/italian.

Now... do you know any Meta Authorized centers around London, or the BMW dealer can do it (I know that the BMW alarm is a Meta too)?
I'd like to fix the siren and get a new plipper since this is not waterproof...

Pity I didn't had time to disassemble the alarm from my old bike back home.

many many thanks :beerjug:

Hello Fanum

I have a KLV1000 with a dodgy Meta M357.

The linky to the fitting instructions is dead, do you still have the instructions by any chance ?

Thanks

Chopps

I might still have that file on my computer at home. I'll have a look tonight.
