Metal mule pannier frames problems.

Has anyone got any pics of the brace bar fitted to the metal mule pannier frames on their 1150?
I've just received mine and I'm having a few problems making them fit properly

Are you struggling to make them meet? Is there about a 15mm gap where there should be 0mm? More details please as I'd love to compare experiences!

The problem I'm having is that the space for the brace appears to be too small, I have to put quite a lot of pressure to fit the brace in and when I do, the angles between the brace and the pannier frames don't seem to match up.
Hopefully the attached pic should show what I mean.
Also the brace seems to get in the way of the number plate holder

But when I put it to the inside, it bends the number plate holder. Is it supposed to do that?

Although these pictures are from a R1200GS, they may still be of some use to you. It shows how the brace should be fitted; the gap that I had between the pannier frame and the brace; the 15mm spacer I had to use to bridge the gap to ensure that the panniers where vertical. To be fair to MM, all issues were addressed and the problems identified as faulty batches of work by their new suppliers.

I've since had a refund and am now using GSA panniers, or will do when they arrive

I've emailed MM a couple of the pics I took. Looks like either the pannier frames or the brace are wrong somewhere.

Mine were the same and I had to have a spacer made up in work.

I wasn't overly impressed and let paul know - he suggested giving them a blow with a hammer Glad we don't work on our planes like that.

TBH i've had the similar problems with the frame fitment on my 1200gsa, the RH frame fitted in about 5 mins, the LH frame took about 3-4 hrs of fitting, removing, bending, fitting etc etc. Although the panniers seem ideal and are indeed a good quality product I feel the frames let the side down. Also some new bolts are required to be longer for a safe fit these are not supplied by MM.

As for MM's customer service Very poor at the moment, after a couple of emails and a couple of phone calls from me to them, they havn't even bothered to contact me (only with a letter sent to me but meant for another customer) I have the promise of replacement frames, but feel if I dont keep nagging them I'll wait along time for the parts

Again, I think the panniers when fitted to the bike are brilliant but the journey between spending the money and having a fully fitted luggage system is a little rough for the price at the moment

I know this aint ideal, but from that photo two seconds in a vice would have it bang on. Shame you have to do this and Paul also told me to put it in a vice and bend it. My 1200 MM frames fitted a bit better but I'd say MM must have a problem with their jigs.

That's basically what MM told me to do, and that's what I did. The angle between the brace and the frames is now OK, but the brace bar will still only fit behind the number plate holder, so something still isn't right.
MM also told me that there may be a problem with their jig and that they are looking into it!
The panniers themselves are really well made and thought out, but the pannier frames really don't come up to scratch, especially for something that cost £250
