Bought a 2nd hand bike last year (06GSA) and its got Metal Mules on. I did want to sell them and buy a set of BMW O/E but have started to warm to my mules.

The main problem I have is that when it's wet my left but cheek and underside of my left leg get covered in whatever flick the tyres throw up. The left hand Mule is the 31l one and there is a whapping gap between it and the bike, which is where my problem is I think.

I think the all the BMW ones do act as a sort mud guard as my old varios left me a clean as a whistle.

If anybody has mules and has had managed a fix, or mod, can you give me a hint? :help

Yep, a mudsling is excellent. Has it still got the oe shock guard on? if so the mud and water gets deflected right off it onto your leg.

Get the balanced lh frame and larger pannier, that will offer more room and some protection, but you will also need to buy their end can I think.

It was alot of extra money in those days so I didn't bother.

Mud slings or just a piece of rubber mat cable tied to the frame are other options.

A wet left leg never bothered me, it comes with age according to proff:rob

The balanced panniers also fit with Keihan's end can from Sgt Bilko of this parish.

1,000 miles of rain from home to the Pyrenees last October, left leg and cheek were fine.....SWMBO deflects/soaks it up perfectly :augie

Hi Shep, loving your old beast. :bounce1 Had to de sticker the mules as felt a tad of a fraud with the ones you left on. Have blinged it up a bit, new fogs, starcom1, zumo and Tourance rubbers.

Anyhow, what is a balanced set? Also still have not ruled out getting a set of boxes from Mr BMW to go with my new frames!!

Ed.
