Methyl Hydrate in UK / Europe?

In Canada earlier this year, we bought Methyl Hydrate as fuel for the Trangia (as recommended by some Canadian outdoor forum).
It was brilliant! Burnt well, didn’t smell, and left no deposits on the pots. It’s sold there as car windscreen de-icer.

Sadly I had to leave it behind, but in 40ish years of Trangia ownership, I’ve never found anything as good. Does anyone know if/where I can source some this side of the Atlantic?

Buy it freely in the UK. I guess also in the Republic.

PS Panel wipe is very popular in some circles. Also freely available. Do not confuse it with arse wipe and, most certainly do not use panel wipe as an alternative.

PPS Do not drink panel wipe either.

Is methanol different from methylated spirits? Cos that stinks and leaves your pots all black.
I’ve tried meths (and tried 10% dilution of it), and bio-ethanol - they’re all messy.

Yes.

Methylated spirits is about 10% methanol, mixed with other solvents (chiefly ethanol) colouring and stuff to make it taste rank.

Don’t drink it.

When I was about 10, my grandfather showed me how to make a simple stove from a tin can, sand and neat petrol. Different times. Happy days.

I have been, for years! Methyl hydrate was readily available in Canada, cheaply, and was the best fuel I've ever used.
So far I’ve only found scientific grade methanol at €many/litre.
I’ll keep searching…

It’s wrong
I’ve been using bio-ethanol in both my Trangia and the spirit stove on my boat for years, as an alternative to methylated spirit.
The bio-ethanol still gives off an odour while burning, and creates soot.

is the air/fuel ratio correct? Ethanol should only produce water vapour and CO2
