Same here, but a rear Metzeler Tourance needed by the time I get to Athens in 8 days. Anyone know of a place that can sort that for me?

Bad time of the year (it's usually the period that most people are on summer holidays) for tire changes in Greece.
Here is a list of tire shops in Athens specialized for motorcycles:

1) Mototrohos phone: +302108827431, contact person: Dimitris (Jim), Tsaldari street 55
2) Bouki's Way, phone: +302104827200, Leykados street 18 Kaminia Peiraious
3) Psichogios phone: +302105154089, Lenorman Street 203 Athens
4) Motoroda (http://www.motoroda.gr/motoroda/) phone: +302106437593, Alexandras Avenue 156

If you don't find anything from the above drop a post here and I will try to find something else!

Getting Greek help with blown front suspension

Hi all,

Sunday morning I discovered my front suspension seals have blown. It's a Wilbers unit that's been on for 48,000 miles. I swapped out the factory fitted ones at 12K when the rear one came to grief.

I'm in Turkey at the moment. I've been warned by the BMW guys here in Antalya that a new BMW unit will take 15-20 days to arrive. Even if i pay BMW to use DHL for a faster turnaround, the fact that Turkey is outside the EU could mean Customs delay delivery for an uncertain length of time, too.

I'm going to see if I can get the unit repaired out here, or buy a new plug n play aftermarket one here, perhaps. There are plenty of bikers around, so the suppliers might be too. :nenau

Meantime, does anyone know if the above BMW motorrad shop in Thessaloniki, Greece is still operating? Being inside the EU (just about) the delivery might be easier. I've tried calling (they're probably closed & didn't answer), and the BMW International site is all Greek to me. Literally.

I was hoping to reinstall ESA shocks front & back as soon as I return to the UK, and I'm prepared to do that a few weeks early - but I need BMW to help fit & set up.

Sensible alternative options welcomed with thanks.

Cheers,

Mullen

Orders from Motorworks take about a week to arrive...maybe if you speak to them they can DHL it for next day delivery. Yes, it may well get held up at customs but it'll only take a couple of hours to sort it out + a charge of about 10% the value.

If you can get to Istanbul I can get you in touch with my mechanic...he's a well known and trusted fella. If you need a BMW mechanic in Antalya I can check the local forums/friends?

Thanks Denny - that's a good suggestion. :beerjug: I'll give them a call in the morning.

I've put a few other irons in the fire also.

Best bet tonight: I've found that Wilbers have an agent in one of the big fat Greek cities I'll be passing through... So I'm also trying to find out whether the team there could service / fix up my broken shock. Might save time & money.

Being in Greece would also speed up any DHL deliveries I need, whilst I get on and ride there.

But I have to limp quite a long way... the front is like a pogo stick right now, and I made the mistake of watching the film 'Senna' last night... :rob

Will let you know how I get on.

This I hope is contact details for BMW in Thesalonakai and their Facebook page is still live

I had work done there last year and was impressed with service and skill of chief mechanic who worked in BMW in Germany

Mullen, are you still in Turkey? I've got a front shock for an '05 GS for sale. If you can get to Istanbul we can fit it at my place.

Hi folks, and ExpatinIstanbul in particular,

Thanks for the offer for a new shock - PM sent to you in reply. I've been on a pretty non-stop schedule since leaving Turkey, so am just checking back on the forum to tie up loose ends.

I nearly had the shock fixed in Fethiye, Turkey... but we were short of a specialist part and couldn't complete the job. Rather than wait for a courier, I was able to ride the bike over to Thessaloniki, Greece and get to the Wilbers fitter there. Stavros (of SixWays Motorcycles) was great value and put everything in good order - a plush ride all the way home :)

Cheers,

Mullen
