Local tyre dealer in N. Ireland advised that I replace my punctured front Trail Wing with the Metzler 6 Days Extreme. I did tell him it would be used on dry stoney/grassy/rutted off road track with about a mile of Tarmac to get there (in SW France).Out today for first time with new tyre fitted. Feels like riding on a knife edge. Anyone any experience of this tyre. I get the feeling it would be much better in mud!!

tyre

it a pure enduro tyre thats it ,not good on road but good for racing. what pressure 14 off /20 on road ? thats about it

A waste of money.
These MCE6day tyres are for racing, with mousses fitted so characteristics of 5 psi. The tyre alone is megabucks, and use on tarmac and hard trails will see the life as a few hundred miles.

Next up, fit Mitas tyres. C19 front and C02 rear. I use these on my DRZ without any issues.
I have had 3x C02s that have done over 3500 miles, which I can't complain about. :thumb2

The best tyres by far in my opinion for the dry rocky conditions you are talking about are made by Motoz. They are an Australian tyre with a really broad range of off road tyres. The Tractionator X-Circuit is a brilliant cross between grip and hard wearing. They do a desert tyre which works well as well.

Have a look at:

Trials tyres are supposed to be un beatable on this kind of terrain, but I haven't tried one yet.
