Guys

Steve's right about reaching the limits of the GS. At the risk of a whole bunch of "I told you so's...."

If I am going to carry on riding thru' the winter, not slow the group down, not ride on the edge of fields to avoid ruts and most importantly not get a hernia it looks like its time for a puddle jumper.

If anyone knows of anything out there worth a look give me a shout.

Budget is totally flexible, but I need something reliable and low maintenance. Happy to look at anything from a trail bike thru' to a full on Enduro. But I'd probably draw the line just before an SP!

Really after something with a provenance and a recommendation.

Don't worry - the GS will be back out come the drier weather.

Cant go far wrong with a DRZ400.

Reliable, only a few known common probs that are easily rectified, parts easy to get and cheap,servicing cheap and easy with consumables everywhere cheaply, easy to ride and forgiving, but more than capable of keeping up with most people on most lanes in UK, holds value well, easily upgraded if required, easily modded to make into anything from hooning SM to a solid enough bike to complete PD, or to run around Morocco for a month on with luggage.


It's not orange, but orange bikes are in many cases, a heart purchase not a head purchase and I don't think they fit your description anyway

As an alternative, I have Timolgra's well sorted DR650 that will be up for sale very very soon.....its heavier than the 400 obviously, but supremely capable and all fitted up with acerbis tank, better suspenders, carb mods etc etc

Nah, he'd find a CRM too easy to ride and you know what a challenge loving masochist he is

I second that statement - DRZ's are extremely capable and versatile...

Still, mine is not up for grabs - and I also won't mention that 'we told you so...'

Honestly though, the Challenge is probably right up your street, Dave's bike is a goodun and a damn sight more reliable than his new one

It looks like a good tool, and a single cylinder version of what I have been working towards with the 1150.

I think I'll aim for something more off road focussed tho'. But thanks for offering it up.
