I am in the market for a EV looking at the MG ZS or Nissan Leaf anyone considering selling please drop me a message thank you.
I watched a YouTube video on this very issue a little while ago, where a small outfit specialises in removing the battery pack and replacing the errant cell/s restoring its range and value. We've just come to the end of an 8 year relationship with a Nissan Leaf; largely trouble free for 79k miles with little in the way of routine maintenance other than tyres it was a reliable comfortable workhorse when allied to a home charger. However, it developed a battery fault* which rendered it almost worthless overnight. Nissan are only too aware of this and now offer an eight year warranty on post '22 cars against this particular issue, sadly ours fell outside their parameters and they refused to take it as a trade in.
*Over discharge on a small number of cells resulting in a 'Low Power Mode' warning and limp mode.
Have you considered the Honda E, we bought one for the Mrs a while back 2nd hand with only 3k on the clock and very pleased with it.I am in the market for a EV looking at the MG ZS or Nissan Leaf anyone considering selling please drop me a message thank you.
Wow. Makes you hope people don’t torch them and claim on insurance.. Nissan quoted between £4-14k, with a £360 inspection fee up front, and the only Nissan facilities are in Swindon or Newcastle.
and thats why Ev's get bad press by the misinformation. I understand the vehicle at Luton Airport was a 4x4 diesel Range RoverWow. Makes you hope people don’t torch them and claim on insurance.
In multi storey car parks.
At luton airport.
Judy wondering.
Stranger things have happened.
The OP would be wise getting some insurance quotes as allegedly underwriters are refusing to cover them because due to the parts shortages you mention what woukd normally be a fairly straightforward repair ends in the MG being wrotten off because the spares are not availableGetting parts for Chinese MG’s is a nightmare
I'm in the auto parts trade and definitely 2nd that...Getting parts for Chinese MG’s is a nightmare
As long as you were aware that's all that is important ... it does not appear to work for you, but I would be remiss not to point it out to you. There are indeed an increasing number of garages that will take on this work, either replacing the entire battery pack or even replacing individual cells. Getting a quote from one has proved very difficult i.e. "it'll be four figures, and the first might not be a one". Nissan quoted between £4-14k, with a £360 inspection fee up front, and the only Nissan facilities are in Swindon or Newcastle.
Ive just got over 100 quotes for both a petrol and an electric MG ZS. The electric car was £20k, petrol £16k. With 100 quotes plus to choose from for each not really an issue is it!?!The OP would be wise getting some insurance quotes as allegedly underwriters are refusing to cover them because due to the parts shortages you mention what woukd normally be a fairly straightforward repair ends in the MG being wrotten off because the spares are not available

He was originally sounding like a used car buyer with above comments re parts to keep in mind...Ive just got over 100 quotes for both a petrol and an electric MG ZS. The electric car was £20k, petrol £16k. With 100 quotes plus to choose from for each not really an issue is it!?!

It was a Hybrid RR ...... and it was the ev side that caught fire.and thats why Ev's get bad press by the misinformation. I understand the vehicle at Luton Airport was a 4x4 diesel Range Rover
but it will be "another EV catching fire as evidence they are dangerous"
