I've done 5k miles on a pair - no complaints.

Greg, did you put them on to replace Tourances? I know it's subjective, but how do you feel they handle wet/dry compared with Tourances? Are they wearing well? Why do they call orange jam marmalade etc

No, they replaced the older Michelins T66s which were OE on my 2000 bike.

In terms of wear, I am expecting the rear to last 8-9k miles. The front might last double that!

Because I am rapidly coming to the age where pain hurts, I plan not to drop my bike. In consequence, I try not to ride too close to the edge of the grip envelope. That said, when Wreford and I rode down through Spain and Morocco last year, there were plenty of bends that we took fully loaded at 100+mph where we had the bikes cranked over to within a couple of mm of the edge of the tread. Both bikes (Wreford was on Tourances) offered loads of grip and surefootedness.

FWIW, Michelin says "A radial motorcycle tyre designed for large road orientated trail bikes. The Anakee features a newly designed tread pattern with variable depth and width tread grooves to optimise wear rates, and improve water dispersion on wet roads. It is the first tyre in the trail segment to use silica in the tread rubber compound, which improves grip on wet and dry roads and reduces the compromise that normally has to be made between wear and grip."

Few thousand on a set now - no problems once I got used to the feel. (different to the Tourances).

Don't be shy, what do they say or have we all got to spend 20 minutes reading in WH Smiths.;)

I remember talking to Dunlop tech the Dunlop sport 200 and the Dunlop sport 300 must not be mixed due to the 300 having the silica compound and not the 200
and this could cause the car to spin out (mix of tyre compounds)

Having Michelin tyres on with Silica in the rubber compound is great in pairs

p.s Dunlop 200 and Dunlop 300 are car tyres

Mixing Anakee with other tyres

Hi,

I e-mailed Michelin to ask about fitting a front Anakee and keeping my fairly new T66 on the back. Here is their reply.

Dear Sir,

Many thanks for your e-mail.
The new Anakee tyre is designed to run with the T66 tyre it replaces so you can safely mix them on your machine.Use the same pressures as per the T66.

Michelin Tyre Public Limited Company

I know it doesn't answer the original question, but this info may help anyone else looking to replace 1 tyre.

Thanks Ian

Then the I wonder if the Anakee and the T66 are the same silica compound must be?

my task today is to call Michelin Tech to find the answer

Anyhow I think I will have the Tourances fitted again :D

did try to fit Dunlop sport 200 but would not fit the GS

wonder why
 :D

I fitted Anakees some months back as Tourances were in short supply, personally I don't like the feel of them as much as the Tourances, and I don't think I seem to be getting as good a milage either. Like Greg, I too am at an age where I just don 't bounce as well as I used too, so I try hard too keep it shiney side up and not explore the limits of grip too often. That said, they're OK, but just don't seem to offer as much feed-back as the tourances. I reckon about 6K from the rear if I'm lucky (or don't push it too hard over the next few weeks !!!

Anakee's V Tourance's

I have an Adventure currently running on Anakee's. I've only done about 1500mls on them over the winter period and therefore only had a few dry days to really push them.
I am however very pleased so far.
The rear bites well into wet roads with plenty off feed-back so you can get on the gas early out of the bends.
The front appears to turn in quicker than I remember the Tourances front doing so, but its not un-nerving in any way just quicker.
In fact it reminds me of the Metz Enduro 4 front which when combined with a Tourance rear on my old 1100GS was an excellent combination.
Let me finish these off and I will give an overall impression.
But for now I would say there is not much between the Anakee's and the Tourances except I had to pay £18 more for them and the mileage life is currently unknown.
