Michelin PR4 - Awful

new PR4 on the front, newish on the rear.
Really bad tramlining over uneven surfaces and the front slips at even a hint of moisture at slow speeds.

Its a mismatch of profile, with the part - worn rear "leading" the front on a merry dance.
Good decision to bin these.

Are they old? The road 6 has been out some time now.worth checking the age

I tried PR4's a few years ago and they didn't stay on the bike long. Possibly the worst tyres I've ever ridden on. The front felt like it wanted wanted to slip from under me every time I negotiated a tight bend or roundabout and frequently slipped in the rain . Got shot of them as soon as I could and they put me off trying any more Michelin PR tyres, possibly unfairly. Much preferred the older style Pilot Road (tour) tyres which were great. Used those on everything from a Yamaha FJ1100 to Aprilia RSVs without any issues.

Had PRR 4 GTs on my original RT and we had them on our blood bikes when the bikes were new. Never had any issues with them and much prefer them to the Z8s. Went to 5s and then 6s, never had any issues with grip in the wet. But then again, I'm not a riding God and probably ride like a granny :-)

I a regularly on mismatched makes or wear and TBH don't mind my bike moving around a bit... Can be unnerving if you haven't felt it before or aren't out much but for regular riders in all conditions is a bit par for the course... Front tyres feeling lifeless and tuck prone is the one thing that no-one really likes...

My '18 R1250RT had a new set of PR4s on it when I bought it two and a half years ago and I don't recall any issues with them at all. In fact having riden an SS1000 on them through the absolute worst rain Scotland can throw at you it felt perfectly safe. Currently I've got 6s on the RT but if a set of 4s came up at the right price I'd happily put them on again.

The only way you'll ever find out if it is the tyres is to swap them to something else. If the problem still persits then it's bearing, bushes or something else that's worn.

New Metzeler Roadtec 01s fitted and I now have the bike I thought I was getting. Fantastic! Techy is insistent that the rear had gone 'off' and hard through age and the number of heat cycles which was affecting the front. Anyone want a PR4 front with 1000+ miles on it 😉

Those Roadtech 01#s are great tyres. Never had an iffy moment, wet or dry, with those fitted to my bikes. Cheaper still, I may try the BT 023's in their heavier load rating when time comes to change mine.

I had PR4's on my 2014 RT followed by PR5's. I found the PR4's a bit squirmy when pushing on in the dry but great in the wet. PR5's great Dry or Wet and Metzler Roadtech 01's felt more sporty......but not "Better" as such and the rear wore more quickly. I got about 6,000 miles out of a set of Michelins, front and rear wore out at about the same rate, and 4,500 miles out of the Metzler with probably a couple of thousand miles left on the front.

I have done tens of thousands of miles on the 2014on model RT 1200. Have tried various Metzeler, Michelin, Avon and Conti tyres on them.
Whilst I would not rate the PR4 as badly as you do (can it be a duff rear i wonder?), I also think they are the worst choice for that bike. And the worst lasting.

My best option was (and still is on the K1600) the Metzeler Roadtech or Tourtech. Avon Storm was a good second choice, but I m not sure they are produced any longer....

In fact, i am such a Metzeler convert, they are now an automatic choice for most of my bikes. I find the Roadtech, the best tyre there is, albeit not the most durable either.

I had 5K miles from newly fitted for my road tech 01's before I sold the bike. There was plenty of life in the rear, possibly another few K miles but the front had had it and really wanted replacing as the edges had worn considerably on the softer compound used for the sides. Possibly the most confidence inspiring tyres I've ridden on, with fabulous stability when cranked over, unlike some others I've tried where you could feel them squirming under the bike on acceleration out of corners.
