I appreciate this has been discussed earlier in the year but just wondered who's tried these for any extended time now and what they think.
Currently been using Next 2 on my bike - which I've been very happy with but they have squared off pretty badly after a 4k trip so looking at other options.

I don't go looking for gravel etc but don't mind doing a few miles if it finds me, so road based all weather is more of interest.

Rider thoughts on this welcome. (y)
 
Tyres are always a personal choice. Ask on here and you will get a multitude of recommendations.

Mine came with Michelin Annakee Adventures from new. I really wasn't that keen and would have prefeerred the Metzlers.

Over 3000 miles the Annakees have performed faultlessly. They are wearing nice and evenly, even with a few motorway way trips to Portsmouth and Scotland. No issues or hairy moments.

I cannot say a bad thing about them other than are a bit noisy, but I wear earplugs so that doesn't bother me.

On my 1250GS I had Bridgestone A41's on from new. They were fine. Replaced them with Michelin Road 6's which were an excellent set of tyres but I replaced those with Continental Trail Attack 3's.
Had a set of Metzler Roadtec 01's on somewhere in between.

Out of them all, for me, the Continental was the best all round tyre on my 1250GS.

I feel the Annakkee Adventures have quite a bit of life in them yet but if I don't get another set of these Michelins, then I would go with the CTA3's.

I am on my second set of Road6's on my 1300. They are perfect for road riding offering great all round traction, quiet running and longevity.

I'm close to needing another front (wearing on the outside) and will be fitting the same.

I use these on the Tiger Explorer 1200. Can't fault them. Will put them on the GS when the current ones wear out.
 
My 1250GSA came with Anakee Adventures great tyres but as said quite noisy.

Changed them out for Michelins road 6 which were a game changer, so good when those wore out I replaced with the same, very confidence inspiring also great in the wet.
 
I'll be swapping my Anakee Adventures (fitted OEM) for Conti Trail Attack 3's as soon as they are sufficiently worn. Having had about 6 sets of TA3's on 1250GS's they would definitely be my choice. The Anakee's are not bad, but they make an awful noise, and (to me) are less confidence inspiring in the wet.
 
The Michelin R6 is my choice. Upsides: great in the wet, resists squaring off, good feedback, warm up fast. Downsides.....they are not cheap and cheerful.

Does anybody have a comparison of the tread life of the road 6 vs the anakees ??

I am getting to the end of my anakees and need to decide what to replace them with

Ps - I understand that a quiet Anakee could be in the pipeline

Personally not a lover of the Road 6, they are a good all round tyre and are good in the wet but for me in the dry they move and sqirm about too much and I've lost traction a good few times when at decent lean angles. I'm currently running Pirelli Scorpion Trail 3's and find these far, far better. Equal to the Road 6 in the wet but absolutely far better in the dry.
 
I had the Road 4, 5, 6 on my last GS, and they don't square off as badly as other tires I've had. I've got a new GS done 7k miles on the original Anakees, they are squaring off a bit but I havent done that many straight miles. That said but I will be glad to get them changed over to the Michelins. My experience with the Road 4,5,6 is they are fine on gravel and/or light off-road as long as you don't push them.

6k on the rear & 13k on the front with about 1k left.
 
Michelin Road 6, Conti Road or Trail Attack 3/4, all great road tyres.

All tyres will square off though, if doing straight road miles or not hitting twisty roads. That is motorcycle tyres for you with their round profile! The part that makes contact wears.

The two brands mentioned above are imo better at keeping their shape than most. Again though, they will still flat off if not getting wear across the tread width.
Deep tread patterns? They will last longer, because there is deeper tread! It will not solve the tyre getting a flat profile though.

On my 4th GS, never had tyres last beyond 4-5k max. I never change just a rear, as when the rear is worn out, the profile will be gone on the front too, even if it looks “okay”, it will have lost shape.

^^^13k !! Maybe could make a front last 6-7k but on the wear bars and highly suspect.

This is the thing, people ride their bikes in different ways, with different priorities. Just like seats and screens, there are going to be different results and expectations.

I’ve had Anakee Adventure on from new and have nothing but good things to say about them. At circa 9000 miles the rear was slightly squared off, so I’ve just replaced them with a set of Anakee Road tyres due to going to Spain and Portugal shortly. Initial impressions are that they are as good as the Adventures - I don’t have to even think about dry or wet grip and they turn beautifully into bends. Obviously, tyres are a very personal choice, but for me they are very good tyres. The same tyre design as the Road 6, but with a more “adventure” tread pattern. One thing I liked about the Adventure (and now the Road) is that the wide tread pattern doesn’t pick up/retain stones etc. I have had the Road 6 on a previous GS and although they were good tyres, they did pick up more stones, bits of glass etc which made more more concerned about getting punctures.

Anyhoo, there are no poor tyres these days, so there is no wrong decision and just enjoy your riding.

It sounds like Dunlop Mutants are made for you. I've just had a pair fitted to my GS.
 
Never heard of those before - sound very interesting and will certainly look into them (y)
