Michellin Road5 tyres?

Tyres gave great grip. Shaved the corners of my boots off in the Picos

Now that’s a top recommendation. Only deducted one point for it not being wet! Lol

Thanks guys, always get a lot of personal preference in these things.

I used Roadsmart 1'2, 2's on a few bikes and really liked them, I have RS3's on my KTM 1190, certainly not a bad tyre, but they are a bit long in the tooth in a world that changes fast, the Ride Wet Tyre Test had them 6th out of 8, but 4-6th were very close, the Bridgestone T31, Michelin Road 5 and Metzeler Sportec 01 were also very close in 1st - 3rd but seemed a cut above the rest.

The problem is this is one riders opinion, and only tested on one bike - would of been better had they got 3-4 riders trying them all as the Motorrad tests used to. Also with the Michelin our sizes (KTM Adventure / BMW GS) are different with a "trail" in the name, not sure what changes they made, probably stiffer carcass as they assume we all ride heavy BMW's and not light KTM's :D

As for old tyres, I had the Tourance Next on my KTM 1090 last year and got caught in one of the heaviest rain showers I have ever ridden in and they felt excellent, I have never felt so confident in the wet, but the 1090 is a different bike, the suspension feels very different to the 1190 and it sits on skinnier tyres, so for all I know they would of felt awful on the 1190?

I guess each person rides differently and a tyre that gives good feedback to some folk will feel wooden to others.

Will probably go with the Michelin as it is not getting lots of complaints, and although I find the Roadsmart 3 OK in the cold and wet I am not convinced it is any better than the 1 or 2 in cold and wet conditions.

Anyone who’s used the Road 5s - what mileage did you get from them?

Edit: mullahs to mileage, because English

love the pilot road series. always ended up going back to them after brief flings with other brands.

I've had 5500 miles out of a rear PR4 on a fazer 1000 including 2 days haring around thruxton (very grippy asphalt but not friendly to tyres!). the front went on for another 2k before i squared it off getting back south from scotland. fzs1000 is similar in weight and only a little more powerful than a hexhead. if that helps?!

the old man's just thrown some pr5's on his 18 plate GSA and is very happy so far, a lot more confidence inspiring than the standard fitments (anakees i think but dont hold me to that). only 1k or so on them so far so unable to comment on durability yet

I had a couple of GS loan bikes with Annakees, long time ago so I suspect they were an older version, but I hated them, felt like the bike had flat tyres and / or buggered steering head bearings.

Pretty much settled on a pair of Road 5's for the 1290, as the 1190 has an almost new rear I will just chuck a new front on it and change the pair out when the rear is shot, also means if I do not like the 5's I have not spent £500 on two pairs of tyres I don't like!

As most of it is in my head and I have decided from another persons opinion whilst testing an entirely different bike, and my own opinion formed on the basis of the tread pattern that these are awesome tyres, the placebo effect should take care of the rest unless these are truly awful tyres :D

I was looking for review of PR5 vs RS3 but seems they only covered PR4 together...

here's some eulogising about RS3 u already tried

https://www.rideapart.com/articles/...ger-life-dunlop-sportmax-roadsmart-iii-tires/

then found this chap agreeing about Mich PR issues (when he went on to RS3s)

I installed them on my K1600Gt this spring to replace the worn Michelin PR4GT with 11,318Km (7,073 miles). now with almost 5,000Km done, I like them better than the PR4GT which the front tire behave like it was always under inflated @ 42psi when negotiating slow speed curves, the Dunlop does not do this. Had a chance to ride them for a few miles in a downpour and from my point of view they are as good as the PR4GT.
