Mickey Oates Motorcycles

I remember when Ally and Vince (Alvin's) started out in a small place in Lower London Road and grew beyond recognition then it all went downhill and closed.

I still see Vince

I sooooo wanted a Griffin Clubman.

But it didn’t fit me at all. Was gutted.

I see there's a couple on eBay just now for silly asking prices and you can still buy new visors for them on there, as well.

ecosse may have closed in aberdeen but i hear shirlaws are taking on honda. just need somebody to do yamaha and suzuki now.

Anyone mention Eddie Tasker on Broughton Street or Reid Allan Patterson, just around the corner? Or LH King on Dundas St, with the creepy fecker watching the shop via a full length mirror on the mezzanine level at the back!

What was the about "Mea Culpa"...? :augie Yes, I've mentioned Tasker's. Really nice guy, Eddie. I used to get on really well with him. I'd forgotten about Reid Alan and Paterson. Was it them who then moved to a wee lane off Constitution St, opposite Leith Police (dismisseth us...) Station? I went into there to look at a Commando before I bought mine from Better Bikes in '77.

LH King - that was the name of the place on Dundas St that did 3 wheelers and scooters, wasn't it? That just leaves the old place on Leith Walk that had a very rough looking sidecar outfit sitting outside or are there more....?

Forget about them PP. Used to walk past very regularly going home too.

Unfortunately my LC250 ended up in Alvins after getting nicked from George st. Got £150 for the entire bike , 2 weeks later the engine alone was on the shelf for £200!
A 350 lc followed with allspeed spannies, harpowa reeds , and ported. The Edinburgh bypass was a great flat oot testing ground. A lot quieter in those days compared to the carpark it is now.

Ernie Page Motorcycles in Polwarth Edinburgh. Bought my first new bike from them in 1985.
Ernie now living in California I hear and his daughter has married a Republican (state or Federal, I don't know,) Senator..
