Microsoft Security Essentials

For life in general and particularly with computer software I never use version 1 of anything.

Do you have any virus/malware/trojan/stability/performance issues using AVG?

Given up on freeware

For years and years I used AVG, ZoneAlarm and Spybot - and was pleased with them.
A year ago, following good reviews, I switched to Norton Internet Security (2009). The previous versions were dogs - do NOT go near them. But NIS2009 is first rate - and there's now a 2010 version. To keep the cost down, download the trial version here and then buy a 2-year licence here (or via a number of other sellers).

I have bought licences on e-bay (usual caveats apply) and they are genuine, delivered quickly (as a letter, not e-mail) and work perfectly.

To be honest, at the price on eBay, I wouldn't bother with freeware and DEFINITELY wouldn't use the Microsoft product. Do you buy steak from a plumber?

Good luck...

I would agree with Banjaxed in that its worth paying for decent protection and Internet Security is one step up from the standard AV.

Personally I wouldn't touch Norton just because I've had it in the past and it's been shite slowing PC down etc ( although I'm willing to believe they fixed the problem ) but I would thoroughly recommend Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.

It's expensive though but I do have a contact where I can get a years license for just £15 . I'm sure I can arrange that for a tosser or two if anybody wants to save themselves £25 on the price . :thumb

I'm using Security Essentials on Win 7. Always used AVG in the past after experiencing the nightmare that is Norton, but I thought I'd give SE a go with a nice clean install of 7 on a new machine. Seems fine so far - less intrusive than AVG ( which was never particularly intrusive itself ), pretty much invisible actually - not noticed any issues at all. Yet.

Pluck.
