Finally! An event on here i can actually attend. Andy Melton, it's been a long time... looking forward to catching up with ya!

looking forward to meeting up again Rich, don't worry, haven't forgotten about trying to find Rosedale accomodation for you.

I will do a route for the Saturday as well as the route for the Eastward return on the Sunday. Maybe a lunch stop at Symmonds Yat on the Sunday for those going South M4/M5 and those going back towards Gloucs etc and then East to Oxford and beyond.

Saturday route to include Elans and then out towards Devils Bridge, Nant y Moch and than back to Devils Bridge, Tregaron, Abergwesyn Mountain Road and then around Llyn Briane. Llandovery for some grub. Then two routes back.

Roads for the blasters back to Beulah and then back roads back to Elan Village and home. Others can go back out to Rhandirmwyn, LlynBriane and then take the Claerwen gravel road back around the Reservoir to go back into Elans and then home.

These are proposed routes and rocks can have the final say on this and any others if they come in as it is his heads up for the event.

What do people think?

I hadnt really thought of any specific routes thus far, but will give it some thought tonight..

Though anyone with more local knowledge are welcome to make suggestions.

Its been a long time since I was down that part of the world..

Elan Valley is a great ride for the Tarmac lovers-one of my favourite's :thumb

I'm hoping to get to this, will confirm nearer the time (as usual)

Just noticed your route proposals Andy, looks good to me :thumb

Steve.

In Dubai at the moment will check diary on return ,if free I will not be camping but don't mind tail ending and being sweeper for a ride out

Routes

Andy if your up for preping a route, that would be great.. I will put one togather too, but my riding speed isnt fast at all. So probably better for the plodders out there..

Might have a look at some fords too..

Looking at interested numbers, anyone know of any decent cafes, eateries that could do a a lunch time rendevous point?

I'll try and tag along if I can get out of a family commitment that weekend, probably meeting up rather than camping as Rhayader is only about 25 miles north of home ;-)

I've just started a new job in residential care and I'm scheduled to be on duty that weekend. I'll see if I can wangle a shift change with someone: may not be possible, as a newbie I'm not sure how accommodating they are.

As far as cafés are concerned: the main places used by bikers in South & Mid Wales are: Abergavenny Bus Station; the one Andy Melton mentions in Llandovery (West End); Crossgates (junction of A44 with A483 just north of Llandrindod Wells).

Other places I use as meeting points: Hay on Wye (car park by tourist office with a large motorcycle bay) or Aberaeron Quay (very small town so easy find and a choice of pubs, chip shop or a nice bakery with a park opposite where you can picnic if the weather is good)

Will be going up from the Bath area on the Friday and leaving at 4pm so about 4.30pm from Junction 18 on M4. Going to go cross country to avoid Friday shite car jams and make the best of the scenery to get there. Using B roads and Valleys.
ANDY

So try A449 junction off M4, Usk, Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Talgarth, Bronllys, Builth Wells, Rhayader ...

or

A449 off M4, Raglan, old road to Abergavenny, etc

or

A449 off M4, Monmouth, Rockfield, Abergavenny, etc

or

A470 off M4, Merthyr Tydfil, Brecon, Bronllys, Builth Wells, etc

or

Chepstow via M48 off M4, cross country to Usk, etc

I'd recommend them all for slightly different reasons, but any route will seem like Nirvana after the drudge down the M4 ... I vary these to wake me up each week and remind me just why commuting by GS is so worthwile!

Booted..

New rear TCK fitted today in prep...

OK.. so we have one road route sortted.. do we have enough people for another route, or offroading? (I dont really know the area so offroading will need a local sage to sort if there be one)..

If we can go :mmmm, will pm you a few days before to arrange a meet :thumb

I used to do off road guiding in the area for two commercial concerns and as a private individual so can look at some off roads for the GS but need to see what weather is like nearer the time as the fords when they come up can be bike wreckers.

As for the ride up from the M4 j18 I was going to go up the Wye valley and then take the B4347 all the way through the Golden Valley towards Hay before cutting off and going through Letton and then Kington and in to Rhayader along the A44. This means less chance of a re run for those that will be coming back towards the eastern side of the Brecons etc on the Sunday.

Rocks... will sort out a road route and pm you nearer the time with some off road if you need it.

Suggested road roiute

Well, I've sorted 1 route for Saturday! But no apologies, this will be a gentle run to see the fantastic scenery Mid Wales has to offer, so bring your cameras. The milage doesn't look much at 130, but over half of the distance will be on single track road with lots of gravel/grass down the centre, and just to add to the fun, the road across Nantymoch Dam is closed so we a have a really great little diversion!.

I'm quite happy to lead this one, but don't want to step ao any toes.....so if anyone else want it, just shout! :D

Hmmm? Hi Dennis.

Sorry mate I cant open the file, just comes up, can't recognise the file that created it.

Any way I can't get away for that weekend :( so looks like I'll mis a good ride out or two. :(

I just wan't to ride me bike.

This was the route I was going to do for the saturday so we will have choices here. Stays off the coast road and the rice rockets in the area and does more mountain pass than coast so people have a good range already.

Whats the way around Nant Y Moch? know lots of the forrest trails in the area so looking for some info on this raod and if its open to bikes. Will miss it rather than waste time on a detour if the road is really ;) shut.
Can do more of a southern loop and take in some of the range roads if this is closed to all traffic.

Much the same..

Routes look great guys.. cheers.
Two routes should be aplenty, not being quite sure on the numbers planning to attend.

Dennis: Route 1.
Andy: Route 2.

Andy, the Nant y Moch road is open to all light traffic but when you get to the dam you drop down a little road to cross the river right at the foot of the dam! it is all tarmac, not off-road in any scense, bur there is a lot of loose gravel, so car is needed

Val, It's a mapsource file, if you don't have Mapsource it won't open on anything else as far as I am aware, sorry!
