Managed to get a day off today to coincide with Andy and Mike being at home for a change! I'm not fond of weekend rides in the summer, too much hassle, and too much else to do, so I don't tend to get out on the trail bikes too much. I much prefer the winter, when no one else is out.
Mid week is okay, but it's getting the time off.
Anyhoo, we threw the Honda onto Andy's trailer with his and Mike's bikes, and met up with Tim and Al at Gas Lane, Mold. This has been the starting point for many a great day's riding, and today was to be no exception.
I had copied a route that we had done about 18 months ago into my Quest, which had a couple of lanes that I haven't done since. A quick chat with Tim to check that these were do-able, and away we went.
After breakfast in Ruthin, we were heading to a track that leads down to Bryneglws, where the farmer has given me grief before. Sure enough, just as we pulled up to the gate, I saw him striding across the road in our direction.
We had a couple of minutes of his beligerent ranting before we bade him "good day" and rode on, happy in the knowledge that someone was thinking so highly of us.
A couple of gates later we had a minutes silence for the passing of Al's rear wheel spanner, bent beyond all reasonable use by a heavy right foot. Thankfully Andy had a better spanner, and gentle persuasion from a large rock meant that Al's chain adjustment was eased.
Mike is something of a newcomer to trailriding, but is enthusiastic and not afraid to give anything a go. Here he is tying out the "run alongside your bike" technique.
You have to be careful though, as mis-matching yours and the bike's speed can be painful.
To give Mike his due, he then followed us up Allt y Badi, and down Heartbreak Hill without complaint or incident.
Coffee and choclate bars at The West Arms in Llanarmon DC, sat outside in the sunshine. Glorious!
Tim mentioned that part of the Wayfarer's, where we were going next, was in bad shape. Part of the track had been cut up very badly, water had got through the base layer and turned it to a quagmire.
"You just need to get in the right rut" he said.
After extracting the 'Berg from the bog, a quick trip to the Corwen Car Wash was needed, to get some mud off!

Unfortunately, time had got the better of us though, and at this point we had to hit the tarmac back to the trailer.
A great days riding, and great company!
