Midge avoidance

Planning on a long weekend camping taking in loch lomond-oban-skye-ullapool-fort william and then back home. Question is whens the best time to avoid the midges May , June or September ?

Or should I just toughen up

Depends on the weather. Had to stop and clean my visor last September the wee bastids were that thick on it I couldnt see

It's called "Woodland Fresh", or "the blue one".

Avoid May and especially June, but really, any time from May to September!!!!
Just hope it's not a blazing summer, cos the west coast Midges are voracious barstewards.

Dont avoid May and June, that is nonsense. They build during the summer and depends on how wet and warm it is. The longer into the summer as long as it is not dry then the worse they get.

A dry or windy period and you won't get any at all. Also not many east of the Cairngorms.

Mind you.. if you have a wet windless day and it is warm, then don't step outside!

Malawi - then the the elephant flies eat them all up for supper! - but watch out for the Hippos.

(May is normally a great time to come!)

Midges are born ahead of rain so I cant see a time of year helping or hindering their birth short of cold weather. The less humid the better.

TCP or start smoking and you can go whenever.
