I was recently in the USA and while there I bought a couple of Midland GXT Xtra talk radios that were on sale only to find out when I get back that they use illegal frequencies!:blast

As you can tell I am pretty clueless with these things and was just wondering can they be doctored somehow to run on UK approved frequencies? If so next question is how much roughly and where can it be done or am I better off just cutting my losses and getting a UK Kenwood?:nenau

All comments gratefully received - including the ones repeating how dumb I was/am to buy without researching etc etc.:rob

Cheers:beerjug:

I`m pretty sure they cant be reprogramed. This has come up before on another forum and the cost if they could be changed makes it a no no.

Checked the mods dk site...........it doesent list any mods for that.

the frs frequencies used to be slap bang in the middle of the police pr frequencies...............but now they arent

private mobile radio now inhabits that area

low power uhf mobile doesent tend to cause TOO many problems:augie

in canada/usa europeans use pmr446 on ski resorts and for years 'merkins have been using frs here

it doesent make it right

but it happens

Thanks for the responses guys - I have tried scanning frequencies on them and it only seems like two or three of the more powerful ones have any traffic on them and they all appear to be scrambled/encoded:augie.
I guess I know what I want for next fathers day/birthday now!:thumb2

Cheers
