Mike, I'm sure you will get lots of advise over at Advrider but I'll throw in my 2p :D Mexico is very hot until about October (you thought Arizona was hot? Mexicans go there to get cooler weather :P). And Striking Viking might have some words of advise on Colombia - like avoid it! Good luck.

BTW - what made you change your mind about Australia?

Go where you want Mike I agree OZ could be missed its full of Ozzies but as for south america if we believe all we read about dangerous countries we would all have to move out of the UK as its a top ten bad country along with the US and the Philippines. which I mention as I have been there a few times and out of around 7107 island only two need avoiding. But according to the world press and the british consulate it is a no no to visit.

But if you do go to OZ,crossing the deserts on a bike is incroyable...

Sorry Richie, you obviously know nothing about Colombia. * But Mike's a big boy (no pun intended :) ) so I'm sure he will make his own mind up.

* Check out Dan Walsh's account of the country in a recent issue of Bike Mag. Or go over to Striking Vikings web site and read an excerpt from his book about his kidnapping while riding there (you'll find the link over on Advrider).

I was in the diamond district in Bogota back in '89, when suddenly we heard a loud bang from the street and people yelling. Alarmed, I asked the shop owner what was going on. "Just somebody being shot," he said, looking rather unconcerned.

In Colombia and Venezuela, people are routinely stabbed or shot for their shoes. Neither are places I'd want to visit again without a team of bodyguards.
