A group of us are thinking of travelling to Millau in July and wondered if anyone has travelled and stayed in that area.
We intend to stay for about 3 days then travel on south.
Question is 1. Is it a good area for senic riding as it looks good on the map.
2. Any recommendations on hotels in the area as wife is going
and would like a nice hotel (not too expensive)

Any advice would be good as want to make the best of my time in France as holidays are hard to get due to work commitments.

Any ideas ??

(1) A great area for riding around.

Go to the 80 Virees a moto thread (it's a sticky) for 16 possible routes ('Virees') all around the area, along with links to the route cards to print out.

If you PM me your email address again I will send you a version that has all the 16 routes on one file. If you open that one up it will become obvious how bits of each of the 16 routes could be joined together.

If you are not confident cutting and pasting in Mapsource, it is still quite easy to mix-n-match.

(i) Copy the two (or more) routes you wish to join together into a new file.

(ii) Change the colour of the routes, using Route Properties.

(iii) Trace over the parts of the routes you want to use, using Route Tool. This is much easier if you have changed the colour of the underlying route (ii).

(iv) Save your new route.

TIPS:

(A) Work off copies, so that you do not lose the original routes, so lovingly created.

(B) Play around with it, it won't break. Not least it's good practice for the future, when you plot your own routes.

(C) Get those decent maps!

(2) Hotels

There are loads of hotels and threads about hotels. Search Millau on UKGSer and via Google.

The ViaMichelin website is very good, too. http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm Pump Millau in and maps and hotels will pop up.

Go to my South of France thread in accom section. Mr K and Ballistic did the tour taking in Millau and stayed with me 3 years ago. They have a nice piccy

There is an Ibis almost in the centre of town with secure parking in a large, locked garage. We've stayed there a couple of times; slightly more expensive than the usual Ibis stuff, but still good value.

I have a couple of routes down to the millau, which can be seen www.motomassif.info am happy to send GpX files for garmin if you would use them.

There are many places to stay in and around Millau, never stay myself always do it in a day trip from here. If you are going make sure you ride the Tarn Gorges ;)

I went to Millau -solo- last september and stayed at the hotel du bowling. its a new building with secure outside parking in a fenced in compound but with no restaurant. Theres a supermarket 300metres away with petrol. Would I go again - not really as theres no atmosphere, but it is clean.

On the way down i would recommend trying to include the Puy Mary in your route.

My own route started at St Malo - St Michel - Tours - Le Mans - Riders rest - Millau.

the gorge du Tarn is a great place to go around.

If you want any details just ask

Andre
