Destination unknown ! France middle bit

I'm off in the morning for five nights in Pontarlier, with routes planned similar to one of your days. We have a night in Troyes on the way and a night in Verdun on the way back.

Never been to Pontarlier and we're staying in the Ibis in town. Hopefully enough places to walk to for evening meals. We'll be out riding during the day. B&B Hotels in Troyes and Verdun - hoping they're not as theft ridden as similar places in Reims...
Don’t be fooled in to eating Andouilette de Troyes.

It seems like it might be a nice bit of sausage but it isn’t 😳

Just stayed in the Hotel de Cirques in Troyes on recent trip.
Brilliant location hotel ok ( Logis ) garages available. Eat @ La Boucherie or something like that - superb food!

And we are off - a little fresh on the 2 hour run up to Hull in our summer gear but the rest of the week is showing ☀️☀️☀️☀️ so fingers crossed for a cracker.

Into Rotterdam in the morning then it’s off to Trier for fine German beer and a massive steak mit pommes.

Love the brown leather seats. They look ace!

Have a great trip!

50 minutes at Rotterdam to get through immigration - the feckers now have my fingerprints so my international man of mystery days are over …..
a faff but to be expected.

Rather them than me …..

Arrived Trier - Blesius Garten hotel and beer Keller. Dinner should be good.

Note to self - never arrive in Trier at 15:30 rush hour, traffic is a nightmare.

Some of the minor German roads into here are in shit state. Would give the UK a run for its money.

Now all is well with the world

Your recommendation here I think Wessie ?
yes

glad standards are upheld

been a while since we stayed there and my last couple of visits to the Mosel, it did not have enough space from my group so we stayed in Bad Bertrich (nice hotel in lovely village, now apartments) and Bernkastel Kues (not a hotel to return to, but nice town)

and so we depart Trier - after a great nights rest, top food and the best bier !
I will stick a little link in the German accommodation section.

We don’t really do breakfast - we like to get going and then grab a cup of coffee, that’s normally good enough.

Anyway, only 5 minutes after leaving I spotted a decent Total garage at the edge of Trier and like a lot on the continent, it didn’t disappoint.
Fresh made coffee and a marzipan croissant and the place even have tables and chairs. It was also spotless.
Whilst drinking we marvelled at all the boxes of 200 fags just stacked up above us and no one was constantly trying to steal them.
We both agreed this wouldn’t last 2 minutes in the UK.
Sad.

Next stop for fuel in the good old Bitches.

I have only ever been here when it’s been glorious sunshine.
It’s a sign.

Into the marche for fuel, a salmon wrap and water, lots of water.
It’s 34 degrees by now.

Fort was looking as impressive as ever and there seems to be more troops around than normal.

In other big news - the town now has a McD’s !
This was ideal for a pitstop Shitstop 🤣

IMG_9187.jpegIt was also time to deploy the ‘Wings of cool’ on the K

Makes a big difference combined with the Marrakesh jacket.
Only my hands are cooking as the rest of the fairing does such a good job of keeping the wind off you.
The missus is in love with the bike.
Whilst I love my old GSA, when it comes pillion and covering distance, this bike is in a league of its own.

Anyway - arrived here, NW of Colmar.
Fantastic roads on the way in.

Another great hotel - friendly, good clean comfy rooms and hopefully with dinner to match.

Just a word of praise for the BMW connected app.
I didn’t bother importing my planned route from MRA today and just did it in the BMW app, dropping a few pins (3) to shape the route I wanted take.
It performed flawlessly.
You just have to remember that it takes a minute for the bike to connect to the phone (iPhone) when ever you restart the bike.
I have found I actually listen to the spoken instructions more than look at the TFT.

Edit - also caught up with two Dutch guys, one riding a beautiful black BMW R60/5.
Fantastic looking bike and he wasn’t hanging about on it either.
👍

We came over on the Sunday lunch time Chunnel and spent the first night in Ypres, then second night in Sedan.
We arrived just South of Epinal last night, having got a last minute Airbnb for 3 nights because packing up every day was doing my head in especially in this heat. A great days riding around Grand Balloon (apart from the swarms of flies and other wasp-like creatures) at the restaurant. Then on to Munster and Gerardmer before heading back to the digs delivered a great day in the saddles. My first time riding this area as we normally pass it by on the way to the Alps and now looking forward to doing Saint-die-de-Vosges and Colmar tomorrow 😎.
Enjoy your trip 👍

Over route de cretes today and then kept heading south - with a diversion or two thrown in as the top dressing season is now in full effect.
Mostly though, the roads were just superb and I thought rather quiet.

Hot - proper hot with a high of 37. ☀️
Was starting to flag by 4pm I must say.

Now down in Parc Haut Jura. Bikes are everywhere.

The missus says she would like to pop into Switzerland as we’re are so close, down to the lake at Nyon first thing in the morning for an expensive ice cream. She has never been.
Then we will turn west, back into France and on in to Beaune for the weekend.

If you go to Beaune spend a couple of hours exploring the vineyards immediately to the west, it’s the region of the very best burgundy white wines. Loads of wineries you can drop into for a tasting session (spit don’t swallow - you’re riding) around all the famous little villages like nuits san george, mercurey, meursault, puligny montrachet etc etc etc

we went to the tourist office and went on a wine tour in a minibus. Visited Meursault and a vineyard in the Haute Cote de Beaune

Meursault is a favourite, although I'm not rejecting any white burgundy even Macon ...

The aircraft and Abarth museum at Savigny le Beaune also worth a visit. They have a very good vineyard too.
