A funny (peculiar, not haha) thing happened during my recent Orkney trip in that I suddenly found I couldn't cancel my indicator
In fact it turned out that none of the functions on my 2016 LC TE left switch cluster would work. So I either had a loose connection or a canbus fault.
Having stopped, I turned of the ignition and waited a minute for the canbus to power down. Ignition on again (ctrl; alt; del
) and it's all good again until we arrived at Gills bay for the ferry when it did it again.
Anyway, to cut a long shory stort - the cables running to the bars are contained in over- sized sleeves and whilst BMW use plastic clips to hold these two sleeves neatly together, they don't stop the actual wiring from moving inside them.
I recently added a coiled sena PTT switch to this arrangement and it may be that I put undue stress on the outer sleeves when I did it. Or maybe it was when I fitted bar risers. Or maybe I'm just a klutz.
My canbus problem was nothing more than the plug pulled out of the unit on the grip and as this lies under a clip-on cover it was easily rectified without tools.
I will say that whilst the wee plug has water ingress protection, it doesn't engage particularly positively
Hope this might save a biker mate future hassles.
