So 1150 gurus, whats this all about and how horrible is it going to be.

Riding home just now and noticed a missfire about 5000 revs so thought mmmmm, wonder if that is coil packs (replaced 12,000 miles ago on both sides) then pulled up at the front of the house and saw white oil smoke pouring out from behind the plastic plug cover :eek:

Pulled off the cover and found this underneath............ bear in mind this was 10 minutes ago and the engine still hot so havent delved further ........2003, twin spark by the way with 33,000 on the clock

i'll start taking it to bits a bit further once kids sorted after school etc but wild guesses appreciated for now .............. today was my first day off work for 2 weeks so thats all my plans fooked for now although at least i dont need it for commuting for a bit :(

your ignition coil is fecked

take out coil, throw in bin ,clean off plastic shyte, fit new coil, enjoy bike, end.

If it turns out that simple i will be a very happy dude :D

Just seemed a very sudden end to the coil within a few miles as the the last time one went the misfire started on a run home from Scotland (noticed it about Wetherby)and managed a few hundred more miles back to Norfolk without being changed or going all melty and oily

I did see once

I was working on a car recently and saw one of those coils rise up like an electric aerial, scared the shyte out of me.I was looking for jeremy beadle.
Ive changed loads that are barbe qued, just change it, it should be fine.
As its such any easy fix, i charge £10 for the advice..:JB

Well, that didnt turn out quite as simple as expected :(

Fell apart into 3 pieces as it came out, melted gloop all over the place but still seems to be some of it left down the end of the tube that i cant get a grip on and as it started to rain that meant game over for this evening as i dont have a garage :augie

will blag neighbours garage tomorrow when he gets back off nights and see if i can get at the remains to pull it out tomorrow without causing any damage or if necessary look at getting the head off

Does that include the vat?.

Think yourself lucky - i've seen the wiring catch fire when the coils have failed and overheated.

Yup very fortunate for it to happen as i was pulling in to my own street and not 3 minutes before at 90 in outside lane of a dual carriageway

I will admit to jumping off the thing and taking a few steps away when i saw the plumes of white smoke pouring out <wuss smiley>

I knew it wouldnt be that simple :blast

After taking the rocker cover off to get the last part of the old melted stick coil out which took ages as there was bugger all to grip on i put it all back together again only to find that the 3 pin connector from the wire to the coil had fused into the old melted one so therefore is fooked :(

Now waiting on another connector scavenged off an old wiring loom to be delivered to solder onto the existing wiring instead of trying to trace it back into the loom itself

On the plus side while i had access to neighbours garage to get out of the rain i managed to get all the plugs, filters, oil and rear brake pads changed in comfort and dryness :thumb
