Cleaning underneath the engine and painting the centre stand cross bar I noticed what appeared to be a missing bolt on the RHS. This looks like an engine mounting bolt at the back end of the short tube that runs alongside the exhaust pipe. The hole was about 75mm deep, M8, and the closest match I had was a 65mm bolt which you can see in the pics. First pic is from underneath, second is from the side, just by the rear brake pedal. Not seen a lot of threads on bolts falling out so I guess it's a one-off.

Not been out on the bike yet but maybe my mirrors will be a bit clearer, though the bike hasn't seemed rough at all. I'm guessing the bolt fell out some time since the last service in March as I'm sure Mike at Stroud Motorcycles would have noticed it as it's right net to the engine drain plug.

Bike is a 2012 TC Rallye.

I think that may be the same bolt that was found to be missing on my '05 GS, certainly sounds like it from your description and from the pictures.

Only thing I could think of was that it had been missed on reassembly after having clutch changed at BR in York, popped in to see Martin who had a scrabble around and found me a replacement.

Bike seemed not to have suffered from it's absence in the intervening 12 months without it!

Just a bit happier now that hole is filled with the correct bolt, looked a bit like a rear engine/gearbox mounting bolt but didn't delve too deeply - bad knees don't you know!!

You'd be surprised how many of those bolts are missing 😄

Great timing, :thumb2 I just took a quick look under mine and the bolt was completely undone and hanging in at a precarious angle just about to fall on the floor!

Mine is also a 2012 Rallye and I'm pretty sure it's never been apart, only 1700 miles on the clock when I bought it - guess what, that bolt is missing ! I could understand it if the bolt was missed when refitting the gearbox, but my gearbox has not been out, to the best of my knowledge.

Anyway, I searched for the bolt on RealOEM and I think it's no 9 on this page:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...25-BMW-R_1200_GS_10_0450,0460_&diagId=23_1114

That makes it PN 07129905122 and it's an M8 x 75 - 8.8 -ZNS3 as the OP suggested.

The very same bolt fell out on my old 2004 bike. I installed a new replacement bolt with a dab of loctite. I suspect that engine vibes are concentrated at this part of the frame leading to the bolt coming loose and falling out.

Why not check the other engine mounting bolts, I thought. That was worth doing as I got half a turn on the left hand side lower bolt and about an eighth of a turn on the RHS upper bolt. Can't get to the LHS upper bolt as the throttle body gets in the way.

The mirrors are certainly clearer since I replaced the missing bolt and tightened up the others.
