Anyone else experienced this...got my GS1200A out of garage this morning, fired her up and noticed even more vibes on screen than normal. After quick check, I found the screen adjuster knob on the left side had disappeared along with the nut on the other side. I still have the plastic bits, but now need a new one from BM.

I can just imagine the phone call with the dealer in the morning...'oh no, we don't sell those separately, you'll have to buy 2 along with a new screen, and that will be £200 please' !!

Just wish I could show its a known prob with this adjustment system and make it a warranty claim.

I have not had this problem, infact on my GSA the knob and nut are somehow prevented from coming apart. That said, you may be able to argue that as yours did they should replace them. Good luck with the dealer.

You'll be able to order it as a separate part:

Part No.2 - CLAMPING BOLT, Part number 46637694397

Can't see how you've lost the whole part, though. Or has the black plastic 'knob' come away from the metal threaded part? If so, could be a warranty claim.

Good news, many thanks. It looks like I need numbers 2 and 7, though I'll cross-check with the bits on the other side of the screen.

I very rarely adjust it, so maybe stick some Locktite on it when I re-assemble.

Cheers.

Are you really serious in thinking this may be a known problem :nenau

Er....yeah (said with slightest touch of sarcasm...)

This forum never ceases to amaze me, with the fantastic help and knowledge of some members (as per the earlier diagram of the windscreen), and then there are others.

I was actually being serious. If you to were to walk into your dealer asking for a replacement under warranty, they would probably laugh you out of the dealership:eek:

Warranty is for bits that break and not just come undone because you haven`t tightened them up:augie

Whilst your looking at the bits, check the 3 pronged plastic thingies haven`t broken because they do.

Apologies Bilko !

Not that you could see this from my post, but I'd no intention of approaching the dealer for a warranty. I probably didn't check it for tightness, but I am also surprised how its unwound itself so far to come undone as there's quite a bit of thread sticking out when it is tightened. Anyway, no big deal, off to the dealers.

cheers

mine vibrated loose at first too (only on the left side for some reason). Just tighened it up properly, never had any problems since.

Noticed that this knob is coming loose a bit. Not just the outside, but the metal knob on the inside can come loose too. I check the knobs once a month or so.

+1 Did the same swap myself a couple of weeks ago, only difference the bolts are common now between GS and GSA, the only bit you don't need to swap on an 08, saves you a whole few quids!

I'm seriously woried about this forum. Last week it was cracked flanges, this week it's missing knobs.....:D

Lost nut solution

I lost the nut off the end of my knob :eek (OOH ER!) but you know what I mean.

Having hands in the XXXL range doesn't really help getting the nut back on nor does the touratwat dash cover.

I drilled the end of each bolt and fitted an R pin. Easier to get on and works the same. A little bit of string on the R pin helps removal and retrieval if dropped when trying to refit it.

Hope this helps.

Roger
