Missing map data

I have a little Garmin Drivesmart 55, a great little unit.

However I’ve just been to France and took it with me, it ran out of detailed maps just south of Normandy.

Maps are shown in my maps and enabled but there’s no detail?

Any ideas?

The north/south divide?

Maps now too big to be under the 4gb limit so 2 files are used. Looks like south is not loaded.

Did you do it via Garmin Express? I don't think Express will use an SD card. Not 100% sure though.

With Garmin Express you can see what maps/regions that are installed.
Click "Manage Maps"
You then get a window showing My Maps, Removeable Storage and Computer.
Click View and that will give you a picture of installed maps.

My missus has a Drive 53. Works well enough and loads all the maps. No SD card.

That unit looks like it only has UK & Ireland maps. Garmin DriveSmart 55 MT-S UK?? Unless the unit was purchased with Europe maps?? You won't be able to get them through Garmin Express unless purchased from Garmin. Cutting off at Normandy is because the UK&Ireland map tiles extend to that extent to include the channel isles.



My Garmin 390Lm has all of Europe like Redboots unit yours specifies UK and Ireland. You can install (free) garminised Open Street maps to an SD card in your Unit to extend its capabilities outside the British Isles.

That way only shows I’ve got the UK / Eire maps but the unit shows Europe?
