new bike with low mileage, when on the over run particularly in at lowish revs (c 2000) feels as if the engine is misfiring / the back wheel is skidding. ie engine braking gives a slightly jerky slow down.

Cant be the rear wheel skidding since it occurrs on good dry roads.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? The dealer gave the usual "they all do that" response, but I dont remember the test bike doing so.

Mine does it at around the same revs, about 2000rpm. It doesn't feel as though the back wheel is skidding though! It's rare for me to be riding with revs this low, I usually don't let them drop much below 2500 and there's no sign of it there.

I take it your in a low gear, 1st or 2nd?

Birdseye....sounds very much like the fuelling map problem as reported by many others......basically (as I understand it anyway ;) ) the fuel gets almost totally cut off on the over-run until it gets down to low revs when it squirts in again to avoid a stall......I suspect what you're feeling is the effect of the engine powering up slightly again as the injection comes back online.

If you haven't got the fuel map updated (do a quick search for fuel map here using the search button) then get the dealer to do that, otherwise it probablly is just one of those 'they all do that sir' situations and you'll probably end up adapting your riding to suit........like riding the clutch on the overun until you twist it open again.....:nenau

2k is very low revs for a young 1200 engine. Mine wasn't particularly happy below 3k for quite some time. Now it goes to 2k, even a bit below, without fuss.

Paul has got a very good point - when new the 1200 is extremely stiff, but gets better by the mile - mine is now at about 2000 miles and is starting to losen up. When I got it, it didn't want to go above 4000rpms and below 3000 rpms... not a nice ride - now she happily hits the rev-limiter and and lower revs are possible too...

... So if you've got just a few miles on the bike, let it bed in a bit before juding it... if it's still there after a good few miles, then it's probably the fuelling that's been suggested above...
