Hi,

I am due to take a trip to france, through spain and I am slightly worried about the bike. I have an 1150GS which has done almost 36,000 miles. I bought it 2nd handm have run it for 2000 miles but have been unable to book it in for a main dealer service (they are full up due to it being service silly season).

I have just changed the front brake pads, had new tyres fitted and changed the oil and filter...

Should I be concerned about the trip, about running 2K+ past the service interval?

Any advice is welcomed!

can you change the oil & filter yourself?

doubt it will make much difference really, but would be nice.

and check it's got some brake pads left.

and take a spare alternator belt.

Yes, changed the pads, oil and filters... but the alternator belt is also supposed to be changed...

Plus I am not yet up on checking valves, plugs gaps and all the other important stuff yet...

Think I'd check the valves (even if you don't feel up to adjusting them) if they are a wee bit loose I wouln't worry too much. If they were a bit tight I'd get them adjusted......you don't want to burn a valve. If you don't want to change the belt before you go take it as a spare just in case!

OH and have fun! :)

Ps Change the oil in the gearbox and bevel drive its easy and cheap. 1.25lts of oil and a couple of crush washers. :)

Thanks for the advice!

Because I am so confident in my own mechanical skills, I have signed up for AA cover in Europe....
