Mitas E07 Adventure tyres?

Need to replace my rear for an MOT pronto, and money is tight.

Has anyone got Mitas E07 Adventures on their 1150?
How do you rate them?

From what I've read, they seem pretty good and last a long time....10K km is a figure used several times for a rear :eek

I have read a good number of accounts of small cracks appearing at the bases of each block, but my TKCs have often done that as well :nenau


I can get a rear delivered for £63 and a front (which I'll need as I've got fekking Tourances on at the moment) £40.59.......and that's bloody good value :clap
 
Fanum, I have them on my 1200 and I will be buying them again for this bike, and also fitting a set to my 990Adv when that is due.
Did a run down and around Spain and Portugal last year, and they were fine, good enough on the tarmac and good enough on the gravel roads too.
The price is excellent as you mention.

I'm currently considering the same tyres for my 950 as the OE MT90 Scorpions and bloody expensive. However I like to ride 'quite spiritedly' on road and wonder if I might find their limits quicker that I would the Pirelli's which I find to have excellent road manners!

Look at it from a different angle Chris......Do you ride 'spiritedly' to enjoy the edge and feel there, or to ride as fast as you can before you get there?

It's probably safer for your license and even body to reach the limits of the tyres at a lower speed.....that's where the thrill is for me, not the numbers on the clock :thumb2

I guess it depends on how you ride and who with. I like to get the best from the bike's chassis regardless of the numbers on the clock. For me it's pointless having the power and handling of a bike like mine without being able to exploit it because the tyres can't cope. If I had little interest in road manners I'd fit TKC's and be done with it! I'd fit 100% road biased tyres but I still enjoy a few green lanes etc. The Scorps are a great compromise but I'd always be interested in alternatives.

I've got a set on my 1200 and no problems. They ride the same as Heidenau K60's and I've ridden in a very spirited manner with those on no issues whatsoever.

Great mileage and you will get at least 10,000 miles out of them.

Every rider is different!

Similar issue that I had with the Sava MC60.

It's no problem it sliding away at tilt around a roundabout, but at 80 through some twisties 1000 miles from home........nah, I'd rather know that the tyres are up to being pushed.
The problem for me is my brain has a set comfort level where x speed = fun. It's not 100 mph, but the tyres need to be able to get me there. Predictability of a tyre is a key factor also. The MC60 was pretty good some times, but then a small change of circumstance would turn things the wrong way very quickly. Not good if you need to correct a line or you need to re correct a mistake.
TKCs are a great tyre, but I believe their lifespan is as a result of that greatness. Any knobblyesque tyre that does 10,000 won't do what I want on the road period. I'm pretty much a road rider now, so it's Tourances for road, yet to find a 5000 mile knobbly that works for most of my riding.
 
I like everything I'm hearing so far :beerjug:

The only negative that is commonly reported is the cracking......

I am in a very similar quandary with my 1190R

I want to do a bit of green laning this summer, am in the taffy dakar, I've got mates going to Salisbury Plain this weekend (and I'd love to join them but I'm on trail attacks) .... but I also enjoy my road riding and do a lesson or two a month where I really need a road biased tyre...

I can't afford a second wheel set (bike model is only two years old and second hand wheels are hard to come by and will be mega expensive) and I just can't think of a tyre that'll do both well enough.

For me the TKC would be too much of a compromise for road riding, and something like the new TKC70 (which I'd happily try) doesn't look like it'll properly cut the mustard on anything other than dry fire road stuff.

I guess I'll have to put up with swapping tyres and trips with loose wheels to my local fitter when i need to change ....
 
Don't underestimate the TKC80 Giles.......I've seen people riding as quickly on those as many on 'road' tyres.....the TKC is predictable and after the block 'squirm' you get, there's a lot more grip to go (We saw Mr Tickle get a knee down on TKC80s in Ireland!)....off road, they are fantastic on dry stuff and rocks, not so great in mud but still OK, and average in sand

I'd have them now, but they're pricey.
My next choice would have been the Heidi K60 Scout, but after starting off nice and cheap when they first came to the UK, they are as expensive (if not more) that the TKC.....these Mitas E07 advs are, by comparison, an absolute bargain I reckon.

I'll get some ordered, I'll fit them meself and report back when I've given them a bash :thumb2
 
The TKC is the best one Giles. Great on road, and usable off road. They wear out quickly though, I get 2500 out of a rear :tears:tears:tears

I've had a set on my old GSA on a trail riding trip to Spain (and thought they were excellent) ... I'll give 'em another bash over the summer but you'll never convince me that they're any where near a road tyre. :thumb

Nope, they're not, but they are a lot better than most people think on road......I suspect most are put off by the initial block squirm and back off the throttle there.

They're also great fun on banding and metalwork.......when 'in the mood', I've often looked for some to play with coming off corners:augie

EDIT.....My 1150 donkey is of course a rather different beasty to your Katoomer.......so the rather large weight AND power difference is obviously going to make a huge difference......The TKC is about the ideal for me, my style and my proper metal bike, and their breakaway limits are probably at around my own limits and those of the bike and its power.....you are a better rider than me, and with your big power margin on top, I can fully understand that they may not suit you as well as they do me :)

One of the lads whose just retired had them on his 990 and it didn't seem to hold him back too much on tarmac. Food for thought .... :thumb2
 
They are not plugged as an all-out road boot, and the fairest way I have seen them described is in percentage form, which iirc was a 70% road - 30% gravel tyre, a fair ratio I would say.....I would say similar to what I would imagine a TKC to be.
I am not a fast road rider, but on unsealed roads I can hold my own, and this E07 suited my pocket and riding style on the trips I have done so far.
I recommend you try them.

They look a bit like the Mefo Sport Explorer I have on the Airhead ( from Zen Overland)

I'm pleased with them and unless it's really shitty and I want to keep the pace up I don't bother swapping to my Off-road wheels

Of course the Airhead only has the power of your starter motors and I ride like a pussy on the road ( edit everywhere nowdays)
