Mitas Enduro Trail XT+

I have been considering using the new Mitas Enduro Trail XT+ but not sure if they are too wide. The TKC80s only just have enough clearance against the spring. Anyone tried them?
The 120/90x17 should fit. I’ve had a 120 section on a R80G/s with clearance. I realise they’re different bikes but as a guess, and I’m emphasing a guess, it should fit. It’d be interesting if someone comes up with a definitive answer.

My plan is to go to a shop that stocks them and measure the actual width with a vernier gauge. I measured my current tyre's actual width (including the tread) at about 125mm (Michelin Anakee road tyre) - surprising, as it is a 130 width tyre.

I would see if you can check out how sift/firm the sidewalls are .. just thinking on the TKC80's (which I have in a different bike [r80 Mono]), my experience of them is good but they have firm side walls, you can let a lot of air our before they deform much, sidewalls may be a factor in getting the correct clearance.

Good point. Although on my R100GS I think the rims are a bit leaky, so if I don't have the tyres fully inflated they quickly lose pressure. I've found the TKC80s don't need deflating for the off-road riding I do, so it hasn't been a problem.

I do want to get the wheels refurbished soon, as there's a bit of rust on the spokes.

I use a Mitas E-09 on mine and although it is very close it does clear the spring.

Edit: just looked at the Mitas site and see that the Trail XT+ is the replacement for the E-09

I've fitted theTrail XT+. They look great. And clearance is fine (see the photo). But so far I've only ridden them in the rain, very, very carefully! I could definitely feel the rear wheel moving out a little, but manageable. They were quite hard to fit by hand, but I got there in the end. The weather is getting better, so I'll be able to try them out properly soon. I've not sold it yet, and need to get some off-road practice in. So will use it for a couple of more months. There is a possible buyer in July.

One side-effect I hadn't thought about - I can't get my feet flat on the ground because of the very deep tread depth!

A slide aside, how many miles (front/rear) are people getting out of this tyre?
Bike and % road/off road estime would be really useful.

It's a tyre I'm considering for my Kove 450 as the nearest trails to me are an hour's ride away.

Cheers.

I had at about 4000 from front and rear before I changed them, although the rear was a Dakar version (much heavier bike also). I honestly don't recommend the dakar version as it lost traction at the slight hint of firm acceleration. I slid past a couple of junctions on the brakes in the wet because of that tyre :DD. I digress, fabulous tyres and quite happy to do road work and relatively cheap to buy. My riding was probably about 60/40 road on them, the 60% being riding to the trails, and quite happy to do several hundred mile days on them. The front was a revalation after using 50/50 tyres, in terms of grip and being able to move rut to rut. The rear, not so much.

Very popular tyre for ADV bikes at the moment.

I’ve come across a couple of tyres that seem to have clearance issues in stock 130/80 size. One was an Enduro Trail E07+ that had clearly been rubbing very badly, cutting into the side lugs and taking paint off the spring. Bike was a 92 r80gs with a WP shock, so a bigger diameter spring than OEM. The other was an Avon Trekmaster that Mikey tried to fit for me to a ‘92 r100r/gs. No joy. IIRC it rubbed on spring and swingarm, being way too wide - at least 1cm wider than the Anakee subsequent used. SWT make a 5mm spacer to use as a (temporary) solution but that’s not ideal. I think that spacers from the K series can be used to do the same?

I've heard people say that they've had to trim TKC80s slightly to fit an R100GS without touching the paralever arm. I've used them a lot in the past and didn't have to do that. There was lots of clearance. Are there any variations in the bikes? I don't think there can be.

Might the deflated measurement change when the tyre’s inflated? Might be something to take into account.
