Hi folks,

Lots of posts on this tyre and i have had a set fitted on my previous R1200GS, now the GSA is needing a rear tyre as the current metzler EXP is squared off after 4400miles. So there has been lots saying that there are question marks over the Metzler tyres now due to chinese making them. So i think i might take the plunge and swap over to a set of PR4's.

The question i have is that the last set i put on were the rear trail which i belive is a softer centre compound, i was only getting around 4K out of the rear the last time so was thinking of going for the GT version which has the harder centre compound.

So has anyone fitted the GT to there GSA and if so what like a miles you getting out of it and are there any ill effects on the GSA??

Cheers
Mark

If i believe what i read, then the fitter 'shouldn't' fit the GT to the GS. Apparently not recommended by Michelin... I'll probably get shot down in flames now . But I've got P4s, fitted earlier this year, so i looked into it and basically came to the conclusion it as a no no for the GS...

But see what others say

From the posts I've read, the Trail should be the one fitted, not the GT.

I can't explain why. Thats not because I'm sworn to secrecy, its cus I don't fuckin know. But someone did get a reply from Michelin who recommended the Trail.

I fitted a Trail to mine, still have Metzler on front (dont care :))

I was told by our local specialist that the GT has stiffer sidewalls and is designed for heavier touring bikes such as the K1600GT.

I've got the trail fitted to my GSA and very pleased with it.

I wouldn't go with the GT personally, even on something as meaty as a GSA the Sidewalls would be to stiff and go some way to upsetting the ride of the bike. Even on an RT the GT is to stiff a tyre IMHO, go with the Trail. They are a great tyre and not overly stiff and work well with a GSA.

Compared to original Tourance I get 1/2 the mileage with Pilot 4 TRAIL's but the trade off is better wet tarmac grip.

I have the GT version on the rear of my GSA and it is fine !
No discernable difference in ride between that and the trail. It is wearing well.

It has the GT as the supplier sent the wrong tyre against the order and no one noticed untill it had done 3k and as i am trading it in its not worth the hassle particularly as it is fine.

Bugger it, opted for another Tourance only £75 delivered. Will do until the front needs swapping as well in another 4K miles time. Will buy a pair of PR4's then.
