Mixing cross/ply and bias rates tyres.

Further to my problems with Pneus (see other thread) I finally got the Heidi K60 tyres I ordered two weeks ago, only to discover that one is B rated and the other, having no B or R is probably cross ply.

There is no mention of the B rating of the front tyre on the Pneus web site or invoice. The code is given as 110/80 19. They left out the B.

According to http://www.rideinbiketyres.co.uk/advice.htm, a bias belted front and cross ply rear is illegal.

Has anyone else had problems with this? To get a B rated tryre on the back I would have to go to a 150/70 B17.

I am so racked off with this. The bike has been off the road now for nearly two weeks while I have been trying to sort this out. Had the MOT booked for Saturday but may have to cancel again.

Any thoughts?

Also illegal are:

Etc
Yet people still do them.
Now, your bike may or may not be technically legal, but is most unlikely the person testing it will notice unless you draw their attention to it.
Dangerous? Maybe, but not particularly, I got out of bed this morning, I know the risks, but I still did it.

Meantime the bike is parked?
Does insanity run in the family?

I took my car to MOT a fortnight ago with a rattle in the front suspension which I could not find. I would actually have been delighted with a fail, because at least it would have told me where the rattle was.
Nope. It passed. I did not draw testers attention to the rattle though.
Maybe next year.

According to the Information column on the left it doesn't look good...

As above - maybe put it in and hope for the best. I'd say most MoT'ers would be looking at a clean, well maintained bike worth several thousand pounds with fresh rubber on and would not look much further.

Whether it got through the MOT or not, I've been told it would also invalidate the insurance.

Malcolm if it is of any help, from Pneus I have 110/80 B 19 Front....

and rear 150/70 B

but should point out i'm running on spoked wheels rear being the F800 standard! (bigger rim) and Front off the F650GS single therefore both Tubed.


Only gripe as mentioned weave only comes on at 85-90 "ish" MPH

I'm struggling on this one. My tyre fitter said no to a 150/70 on the F650 rim. I seem to remember having the same problem with my TKC 80s but somehow found a solution. Maybe my old tyre fitter was more flexible.

At least the bike is back on the road. My tyre fitter managed to source some last minute Anakee 2s so the MOT is sorted. i really wanted Tourances but these actually seem very good so far.

I'l just have to keep looking at the knobbly options. Still eight weeks to go before Iceland to so keep those suggestions coming everyone!

110/80 on the front - 140/80 on the back - both tubeless.

If it came with free leg extensions I may be tempted! I do prefer running on tubeless, if I could just get the right damn size.

Actually I'm dead impressed with the Anakee 2 tyres I had fitted on Saturday to get the bike back on the road. I was reading the Adventure Motorcycling Handbook again tonight and one of the contributors was saying that with a heavy, fully loaded touring set up, very agressive off road tyres are less important.

I have left messages with the Trellesport folks today to find out more about the Mitas range, see if they have anything that might work with the Heidi rear. Heard nothing from Pneus about how to return the tyres.
