MMC's D-Day beaches - a partwork

Thanks ...

Mark even though I have also visited several times most of where you went I really enjoyed reading your report.

Can you imagine if we had those gun placements etc over here they would all be fenced off and we would be told it was because H & S issues.

Nice to see that the art of the Ride Report isn't lost.

Good one Mark. :thumb2

Thanks guys - I'm really pleased you've enjoyed it. Certainly enjoyed the trip, and writing it up is all part of the fun.

Definitely heading back as soon as I can. Absolutely love Normandy, and the history there just makes it even more fascinating. :thumb2

Some fantastic words to end great report, well done Mark. :thumb

I can only echo the above very well put words. Very well photographed and narrated.:clap:clap

On a theme reminded to me by your words towards the end of your thread. Not long ago I was talking to an old boy I have bought a couple of Jack Russell terrorists from; turns out he was an ex Commando and saw action overunning U Boat pens in Norway where the RAF and Navy's bombing and shelling had failed to damage the facilities there.

Before he went to war, a group of WW1 veterans in Worcester, on seeing him in his uniform in 1939, pre-Dunkirk said to him " You kids of today haven't the stomach for a fight like we did son, you'll never stick it"

Funny that we are still in awe of the bravery of our "kids of today" , who are no older and just as brave. They restore my faith in younger generations.:bow

Brilliant report mate....thanks for your time and effort in compiling it and posting it.
Thoroughly enjoyable and very informative...the pics were ace too. :beerjug:

Giz a bell if you want another three wheeled accomplice over there with you on any future Ural trip. :thumb2

Well worth it - but allow at least a couple of hours to see it properly as it's a big old site. Plenty of others around there too.

Thanks very much for such an enjoyable report, I am going over with the family for a few days next month for the first time and really appreciate hearing about some of the places we should being going to ourselves.

Cheers fella, that's given me a lot of food for thought for the trip I'm planning up there after Le Mans this year. Be a good change after doing the Alps every year. Want to visit my Dad's Uncle's grave in Ranville cemetary too.

Excellent report, thanks for taking the time :thumb

Rob

A pleasure, Rob.

Who was your Dad's uncle? Did he serve with the 13th as well?

Yup, my great grandfather is buried in Loos WW1, and he was 24 too, but left 4 kids behind, including my young Grandma at the time....tragic.

Looking forward to paying me respects at Ranville too...

Cheers.../Rob
