Mobile phone signal booster, anyone use one?

I use a pair of vodafone Sure Signal thingies....they seem to work OK.........although why I need to cough up 50 quid a throw to cover for deficiencies in their service is beyond me.....

and pay for the bandwidth and connectivity to their network :blast

Around your neck of the woods O2 is also poor Mike.
Here in rural Fife, 4 bars on the phone inside but there is no 3G capability. They still charge full price though - but I don't see 3G unless I go to Cupar or Perth.

The unlicensed use of mobile repeaters is illegal in the UK. People using them can face a fine of up to £5,000 and up to a year in prison.

Taken from here Mike.

I have no signal at home on any network and was thinking of something like that but the £150 puts me off. Why should I have to pay that much just to get a signal?

A few years back I had problems getting a decent O2 signal in the house. I purchased a GSM Booster mobilerepeater LS-RF900 with external wall mounted aerial.

The indicated improvement on my phone was from one bar to four bars but it didn't improve the actual connection quality. It was an O2 specfic repeater but I reckon that it was a complete waste of money.

At least the Vodafone SureSignal is legal but you have to pay for it and connect it to your router and broadband for it to connect to Vodafone's network. Think Vodafone 3G hotspot, like WiFi hotspot.

Obviously Vodafone SIMs only and limited to 8 (I think) users that you have to register. Maybe a solution for you

3 gave me mine for free, and I must say it works superby

Got 2 devices via vodafone, 1 for home as the coverage map has a line through my house so fairly either poor or Ok, 2nd one for office unit in the sticks again low signal or when shown as high dropped when in use.

They wanted to know where they were to be used and why - they said no problem free issue and 2 arrived in the post.

I think there are new versions now that plug directly into a 13A SSO - the sure signals I have were a pain to set up, but did the job.

Vodafone now charge £100 for theirs. I have an original £50 jobbie and its faulty...What a pain in the arse trying to get it looked at, of course support calls go offshore so i may as well talk to next doors cat for advice!

Orange/Tmobile/EE or whatever they like to call themselves also do one, not sure of the price but the advantage they have is that its open, anyone local to it can use it (as long as they are on the same network) where the VF one you have to register mobiles to access it.

Yes, my old 3GS worked fine but my 5S won't as the bloody sig assist is faulty (It did work for a while) :(

Thanks for that. Must give them a ring and see if they'll do the same for me. I'm in between a couple of mountains and a mile from the border so the signal is virtually non existant.

Me too, But how many bulshit conversations to India did you need to have? They kept telling me the engineers where working on it or that the signal I'm my area was fine! then when i gave them 7 days and requested the contract opt out cost the Indian chief (sorry bad pun) called to offer the home signal box. Only down side is our internet is a bit random but otherwise it works well

I have just had twenty minutes of that shite. And then saw your post. :blast

Ah well, at least now I am well armed for round two. ;)

We have crap signal in Wivey so I called Vodafone and asked about a sure box, they told me to go into the local shop and say that I was told they would give me a free one.
I did, they did and it works very well, get a full 5 bars now.

I got a sure signal from 3, had it about 2 weeks, where I had no signal with the iPhone now got full signal, they tell me when the fix the transmitter the will request it back, or it will cost £110. I asked what happens if I still have a rubbish signal when the transmitters fixed, they say they will sort that out when it happens, unless the transmitters been broke for over a year, it won't help. India told me 4 months ago, last time I complained that all transmitters are working fine.
