Mobile Speed Cameras

I was driving up Pall Mall in London last week and luckily noticed a copper with a mobile hand-held speed camera hiding behind a lamp-post. Obviously not much real crime going on in central London. It made me wonder though if you got caught speeding the camera obviously would have no record of your number plate from the front. Would you still get done?

If it's operated by a police officer, and he notes your reg number, yes that's enough evidence for you to be charged.

Usually the hand held devices operated by a person at the side of the road are not cameras, I think, they are just speed detectors, and they'll pull you over if you're speeding and issue a ticket on the spot.

people treat that stretch like a drag strip, about time the law was enforced, you get Audis doing 60 along there until they hit the next jam

2 coppers stood at the side of the road in Hook, Hampshire.

1 line of traffic (cars) moving at about 35-40. Speed limit = 30mph.

1 GS travelling at 30 (coz I'd seen them). Not the slightest interest in the traffic until they hear the bike, then up comes the hair dryer - pointed directly at me (and only me).

Guess what's ironic - Hook is the home of BMW Finance

Yeah i was under no illusion about not getting a ticket but you hear about these footballers who pay barristers a squillion pounds who get them off various driving offences on technicalities. it was just an idle thought really that the camera can't connect the speed to the licence plate unlike a car so if you were rich enough to pay one of those clever sods would you get off....
