I now have nearly all the bits to do this, now before I start, has anyone got experience of how the Insurance companies treat the bike and the modifications, since they aren't really for performance enhancements.

Although I understand changing the colour from MPY to black will increase the performance slightly.;)

Before anyone suggests asking my insurance compeny, yes I have explained it to Carole Nash, and no they didn't really understand.:(

Otherwise it may be easier to sell my Standard-ish GS for a GSA, which I'm not that keen on doing.

Apologies if this is a hugely stupid question - it's just I'm sure there must be guys on the site who have already done this ????

Is it just the tank, seat and screen you are swapping or the suspension as well. The GSA driveshaft has a different part number so there may be issues if you put the taller suspension on yours; I've no idea what the difference between the two shafts is though.

The larger tank is a option for all the 1150s so shouldn't be an issue if you tell them it's been swapped.

Which bits are you doing out of interest? I have got an 1150 that thinks it's an ADV

thanks guys for the replies

It is just the tank, seat, rear rack and luggage that I am replacing with the relevant GSA items. Just cosmetics really.

I already know I have to inform DVLA about the change of colour.

Reason I'm doing this and not just buying a GSA, is I've already had a little bit of engine work done the bike about 2 years ago, and don't fancy giving it up.

cheers

cheers Stubbs - just the info I was after.

Atkule
- would be interested in any pics of your bike ?
Did you encounter any problems whilst doing the conversion ?

thanks

Mine's down with Carole Nash as being modified & the list of mods includes:

Adv tank & screen
alloy wheels
Powercommander
Y Piece & end can
Hyperpro suspension

Insurance isn't even loaded & both my bikes cost £301 on the one policy.

Just for fun, at renewal, I asked about what difference it would make if I fitted NOS..... The guy on the phone just said "You don't want to do that..."
