Looking to pick up a 2016 or possibly 2017 1200 Adventure. Are there any significant improvements on the 2017 model over the 2016 and if so how do I tell if it's the newer model.
Ta in advance.

Euro 4. Work out if that makes it better for you.

How to tell, orange reflectors on the front forks.

My 2017 over my 16 has dynamic brake light & Lean ABS. Other than that its the same, But euro 4. Oh and a slightly different dash.

The way to tell is to lift pillion seat and if underneath you see two “boxes” plugged in it is certainly 2017 model if only one then it is 2016 model.

Bloody front reflectors make it much harder to get a U lock to fit

Gearbox is supposed to be better on the 2017 bikes

It is better than that on a 2014 model I have had, but not sure about 2016 models, probably same as 2017.

Improvements on the Euro4 2017 model include an updated gearbox and drive train cushion. People commenting how nice the gearbox is now on the 2017 models.

Euro4 - OBD2 data port as standard, which is great as you can now connect your mobile phone to the bike and reset service indicators and read fault codes yourself, without expensive BMW kit. Also read bikes telemetry data and overlay it on video footage. Cant to this with <2016 models.

I'd get the 2017 bike.

Start them up and select 1st gear

If it goes BANG as it selects then it's a 16my and if it snicks in to place and doesn't jolt forward it's a 17my

The later bike also has a blue circle on the clock faces :thumby:

Mine built in December 2016 does go bang, that isn’t right, is it?

My 03/17 GS still goes bang into first, maybe not quite as violent as my '14 model, the rest of the gearbox is snick snick.

17 model year, the gearbox is superb. Hard to believe its a GS tbh as it is better than my recent KTM and Ducati by a big margin.

Coming from a 2014 gsa to a 2017 gsa is a big improvement. Gearbox is very smooth, gear shift pro is a hoot when you learn how to use it. Clocks seem a bit easier to read less engine noise but still a bit of a drone . Magic wheel in a better position , for me somehow it rides a lot better , can't think why though . I love mine in a way I didn't the 2014 model:thumby:
