Do you have specific Moderators in mind? Or do even those who have no control over events outside their particular section have to share some collective guilt? :nenau
 
dont know what this is all about, but i must say, there are mods on here that handle things badly, and give people preferential treatment, (or the opposite)
maybe there too busy posting on other sites to mod here:augie
then again, theres good ones too that go out of their way to help:thumb2
 
There's plenty of mods on the site sitting back not wanting to get invovled.Tuned in worked behind the scenes for weeks trying to sort this out to no avail.
There's only Garry Aidan and Bill who ever really get stuck in and then they get the hassle and backlash from everyone else.

I say bring back Kev and Ronno the sites needs them :thumb2
 
FWIW (I have as little control as any non mod in the section in question) I think that Philip did himself no favours at all.

He could have chosen to compromise, and discuss this off the board.

Instead he buried his head in the sand, didn't reply to direct emails, and therefore this played out in public.

It could have been handled better, but I see no reason why any mod should prevent open discussion about any vendor product or service. Isn't that one of the main benefits of the board?

It's not a question of choosing not to get involved at all. Each section has it's own moderator and they are entrusted to do what's needed to be done and to manage that in the way they see fit.

Perhaps it's worth considering that the forum wouldn't need moderating at all if it wasn't for the failure of some posters to fully appreciate the impact of what they from time to time post.

For those that can moderate some of the more 'challenging' sections, it's a thankless task. You'll never please everybody!

This is in the Irish section - so only irish mods and - i think - Aidan who can jump in to mod.

similar things go for the for sale section

Other mods can try to be the 'voice of reason' though :augie
 
That's a wide old brush there Joe, surely there are only a couple of mods who could have done something about the FS&W thread and equally so could the original poster - surely it was he who chose the fate of that thread and also Civil for not engaging until a tide of emotion was waging against him, choosing to post himself antagonistic posts on non-related threads.

In my mind Civil's actions specifically in FS&W over the years have set him out as an utter pikey and I mean that in the most disrespectful of senses towards pikeys and that the sentiment of that thread took so long to come about is the only surprising aspect in all this, that it was surrounding the panniers he makes and peddles on this site for me is almost an irrelevance over and above his usual ways on the site towards sellers/buyers.

Also the OP had clearly decided to encourage that feeling in favour of and to the detriment of selling his panniers, at the point that was obvious the thread should have been binned to the Beackchat & Bollox.

Its easy to put the blame on the mods but I suggest you try walking a mile in their shoes first before laying in to them. It sounds like Gary has attempted to mediate in this instance behind the scenes to no avail, he also offered to split out the thread and the offer was declined - so I'm with him in this instance, leave 'em to it and go and do a nice photo slideshow of his UKGS'er time - far more constructive and more appreciated my many I'm sure.

I haven't been around as much this past week or so, and won't be for the next few weeks as my Dad has been taken into hospital. :(

It was me who closed the thread late last night after reading through it.

In my opinion, the matter was not going to be resolved in that thread and I think that there may be more of a chance of getting it sorted behind the scenes by those directly involved. I hope so anyway.

Not every mod can be on the site all the time. We have our own things to be doing like everyone else, but we try to do as much here as we can. As I said above, I won't have much time to give over the next few weeks.

Despite all the bad feeling and disappointment about mods I have to say that I didn't receive one PM alerting me to what was going on. :nenau

This was fininshed for me maybe two months ago. There is ABSOLUTELY no way that i will Succumb to , threats of runiation , Condecending remarks,, . Do any one of you think i am Stupid ?.

The Only thing that Saves the Day for me is the Number of folk that
have emailed. Gladly , as with life so far , The good outweigh the bad.
