Checking my rear brake pads on 2015 spec GS and they now have stainless backing plates. Don't know how this would help but pads done 4,000 so far and hardly worn. Never got more than 4500 on 2013 bike , and disc worn to limit at 14,000.Always got min of 10,000 plus on all my air cooled GS's.

2013 GS, Rears worn out at 4500, replacements under warrantee ,bike now at 1850 miles and lots left on the pads.
Been carrying a spare set for 2 years :D

Non abs 2011 gsa, 15,000 miles on the original pads and none are more than 1/3 worn , they all look good for another 15,000 miles.
2014 gsa lc at 1200 miles the rear are approximately 1/2 worn ..................I blame the ABS either that or the pads are made out of cheese

Just re measured the pad depth on my rear pads on the lc today as I am away on a 3500 mile tour this weekend , bike has now done 1500 miles and they are down to 3.5mm ...... at 1200 miles they were at 4.0 mm .
Hardly use the rear brake but I reckon that they will only last another 1500 miles with that kind of wear rate.
The pistons are free on the caliper, the pin is clean so I can only assume that the pads are made of something akin to playdough
Looks like I need a set of pads before Saturday just in case

It's the linked brakes, in slow traffic light breaking with the front lever puts on the rear brake.
The average user applies the rear brake twice as often as the front even if you never touch the rear lever.
