Just heard on the BBC News, that North Yorkshire Police have (fllowing a successful trial) decided to increase their fleet of Speed Camera Vans for the 2013 summer

They will be targetting bikers in particular who speed in the county and the new Vans and Cameras can identify and isolate bikes, taking pics from front/side and rear simultaneously

It has some of the most sophisticated speed camera equipment, ever developed

They were showing it on the News at an airfield, with a S1000RR BMW overtaking cars and how the camera pinpointed the bike

So.................be warned as they will be out this summer and they will be out to target speeding bikers

More backroads for me, from now on:thumby:

it's the future :thumby:

TBH on the best roads, you need not go much over the limit to get into, um, "interesting" riding anyway :)

We both know where the 'best' roads can be found ;)

In the Dales, there are a multitude of barely classified roads (but still well surfaced) that you can still have some fun on, without bothering a soul and meet zero traffic

Well worth searching out:thumby:

Simultaneously !!!! - must be a long camera to do that

Sequentially I can understand and then link them all together;)

I'm not surprised. There are lots of old blokes wobbling about on big bikes up there

It was followed by a "speeding bikes" clip on the One Show this evening mainly referring to the A166 and Seaways cafe.
I like having a driving licence & I like riding my bikes. Small roads rule :)

Spooky. That's exactly what I heard on the news yesterday.

:blast

Another reason why I mainly ride on B roads and smaller:thumb

Good. They have to do something to both reduce the mortality rate of mad speeding bikers and stop the lunatics that give us all a bad name.
I'm with you JB, so many great roads that don't need you to do that much over 60 to make them really interesting. :thumb2

It's for the power rangers on sports bikes, us lot on big traillies will always take the smaller ( and more fun roads) where the camera vans won't be parked.

Ah but these days many big traillies are ridden by power rangers in transition:eek

I'm still stuck in my Neanderthal stage

What do you mean by 'still stuck' Jim - I thought you were on 'second time around neanderthal stage'

And besides - you need to know about these speedy van things after our last little jaunt down the '65:D
:hug

I sincerely hope these bods didn’t have one of their cameras pointing at me last Saturday......A171 riding from Scarborough to Whitby, down that big hill before you get to the ‘Flask’....

It was simply an over take officer.....Nothing else on the road.....I could see for miles.

96 in a 60.....Digital speedos are a feckin curse........

Out in force tonight in Wensleydale, 2 Vans within 2 miles of each other:eek:

Cameras...............back/front/sides with a 0.5 mile clear sight range I reckon

What on your RUPPS & BOATS John!:hide

I'd consider writing to my local MP about that if I were you.

All the best, Jim.

I'm fed up with seeing them.
At least twice per week I see 1 or 2 on the A64 near Tadcaster.
On Sunday, in freezing rain and stormy winds, I dropped into Sedburgh and there was a camera van around a corner just beyond the 30mph limit. Then another 2 camera vans on the A65.

Who are these people in the vans? Are they traffic cops?
Do they have 1 or 2 officers in them?
I don't see how 2 cops sitting on their backside for hours is good use of my taxes and their costly training. JMHO.

one occupant - mostly civvies. :thumb2

Between Jervaulx and East Witton and another in Middleham

Little traffic, can't see it being anything else but revenue raising:mad:
