somewhere, over the rainbow...
hello. im getting round to sorting out a twin shock 'special' i bought a while back based round the frame of a 1977rs. ive noticed the rear wheel has noticable wobble when you grab it and rock it top and bottom. is this likely to be a job i can sort myself or is it pretty full on? im used to working on my paralever but have no idea about the earlier stuff... cheers.

The wheel bearings need to shimmed up or they fail pretty quickly. You need new bearings and the lot shimming properly.

Bearings are easy to swap but getting the preload right needs a very setting low torque wrench, around 3.5Nm don't be tempted to do them by hand, that's usually what causes the problem in the first place - if you just take the play out of the bearing it will be far too loose. If you have somebody local you can trust I'd take it to them.

This is the factory data for the front wheels, the rears similar
